    Drivekey 1.0 with original NSMB

I put a drivekey 1.0 on a wii 4.2u when i put in the dvd drive the original games of NSMB ive got a blackscreen disc error.... so i try to disable the drive key with the config menu of the drivekey and i still got a disc error... i try a backup Mario Galaxy without any disc error screen... any ideas?

NSMB will not work yet with the original versions of drivekey. If it doesn't have a yellow sticker on the back of the chip, you will have to wait for the to release the programmer with the update.
If you just updated the firmware to 4.2, you won't be able to play out of region games. Meaning that if your Wii is PAL and your backup of mario galaxy is NTSC, you won't be able to play.

Oops. Sorry, didn't see the original part of your post. That seems very strange. When you put the original game in did it prompt for an update?
I haven't tried an original with a chip installed.
Did you install the drivekey yourself? Maybe remove the chip and see if it will play that way just to be sure it is a problem with the chip being in the Wii.

    should work fine

I can confirm that a retail disc will work with drivekey 1.0.

If you're receiving a solid black screen, you should just turn off the update blocker. If it's the black screen with white letter disc error then the disc may be damaged or dirty.

I don't understand 99% of what is on this forum! I have a DriveKey which I installed (DriveKey | New x4 Diode) and understand that I can't update my firmware unless I want all my NTSC games to stop working. I bought an original NSMB today but am being prompted for a System Update in the channel where I would click to play the game. Am I unable to play NSMB without updating? is there anyway for me to find out which of my discs are NTSC so I know how many won't work?
Can you help with really simple dummy language about what my options are? please!! Thanks.

No, you will have to do the update in order to play the original disc. I would always use backups from the same region. I did lose the ability to play my backup copies of some imports, but I don't play those titles much anymore anyway.

I'm not sure the best way to check a region from a backup, unfortunately.

I would say some options for you are maybe Freeloader or softmod. I would read up on them at least.

go ahead and update from the original disc....this wont hurt anything....nor will it bring you to sys menu 4.2.it brings you to 4.1 which is just fine.
