Just recently brought a DriveKey when i was over in hongkong,
Installed using the video tutorials everything done step by step. I set region to 1 Up, 2 Down for Pal. Now unforuntly it wont let me play my orig games, nor any back-ups. The red light comes on if i hit eject 3 times but then the wii comes up with the message "error etc, please refer to manual". it wont let me access the menu. I am currently running wii firmware 3.4b. The wii was purchased back in early 2008. Is it possible the drivekey is faulty? or is there something iam doing wrong, when the drivekey is unplugged the wii works fine, no issues, once plugged back in, makeing sure the wii/dvd are connect to the right spot it refuses to let me do anything at all.

Ive read people having similar problems and they were told to make sure the ribbon cables are sitting correctly, It does sound as if its not installed correctly or as you say its faulty
yea i agree with dodgydino make sure the dvd ribbon cables are in tight and connected properly also make sure there is some tape or something on both sides of the mod chip to make sure its insulated and not touching any metal if ya done all that i would say faulty drivekey
Same problem here. It works for me on a hit or miss basis. I have opened my Wii and checked that thing more than 10 times now.... nothing. it works for a second but If I quit a game or turn off the console it will not read anything. I have watched countless installation videos and tried the numerous ways to install The DriveKey (everyone has their own bright ideas for installation), again... nothing. with further inspection of the chip itself, I noticed that the little clamps are really loose, thus not providing proper contact with the ribbon cable (notice the "Snap" sound the clamp on the Wii's DVD drive makes). You will not hear that satisfying "snap" on the DriveKey itself. Now... I have seen two kinds of DriveKeys on the market: one with "Pull-out/Push-up" clamps and the other as the flimsy lift-up clamp (which is what I have) Read this post to help you see the difference:
Got it!!! I can confirm 100% that the clamps are to blame here. When putting the Wii back together, it causes tension on the cable, and since the clamps are flimsy, the ribbon cable gets dislodged. I tried operating the Wii with the cover off and... BAM!!! Perfect execution! The DriveKey works, I tested it 5 more times (shut it off and on) and it works flawlessly. I put The Wii back together without the screws and that seems to work for now but I have sent for the Lock clamp version of the DriveKey. Hope this helps!!!
well... I did some further testing.... There are rumors flying around that the DriveKey has problems with Wiis that have a silver ribbon cable. now, my Wii has a silver ribbon cable (got it on launch day) so I chalked it up to be part of the problem. I installed the DriveKey in my friend's Wii (which has an orange ribbon cable) and the DriveKey worked like a charm! I tested it over and over and over; with the Wii open, closed, closed with all the screws and parts back together, and guess what? It worked. Just to make extra sure it worked I waited several hours before testing it again. Yep, it works. The rumors speculate that the silver ribbon cables are very sensitive to the DriveKey's "Wii" labeled clamp, thus, causing continuity errors. It might just be particular ribbon cables, but this doesn't dispel the notion that rumors are just rumors. I fear that even though I get a replacement "Lock-style" clamp DriveKey, it will not fix this continuity problem. Good luck to all with this unfortunate problem. Maybe someone will fix this in the future.
