Any do's and dont's

Im new to all this malarky and dont understand a lot of the jargon thats spoken on here. Basically my question is that ive just installed a Drivekey and im glad to say everything is working ok but i'd like to know if i can update the system as i used to without any problems or because ive now fitted the Drivekey is this a no no.
The software on my Wii is currently 4.1 and its a PAL system, Ive seen the thread about upgrading issues to 4.2 but i will be honest i dont understand a lot of whats going on.
Finally because ive installed the Drivekey are there certain things i need to avoid or can i carry on as if the key werent there.
Cheers

have a look about the forum, you will have your answer. But, modded and unmodded Wii's have been bricked from the 4.2 update, Nintendo say that very few unmodded Wii's have been bricked, but who really knows. Update at your own expense. I'm sure you can block updates with your hard modded Wii.

When you say you can block any updates are you on about blocking any updates from games or blocking it from updating even if i select it to update.
If i dont update any more what will it affect.......My system is already asking to be updated so i can use the shopping channel, Does this mean if i dont update it i wont be able to use tthe shopping channel again.
Sorry to sound thick its just that im trying to get my head around what i can and cant do

I know you can block disc updates with your chipped Wii, but as for Nintendo online updates I do not know, perhaps the manufacturer can provide you that info, or another member or a moderator knows, I use softmod only. You need to update to use the shop channel, there is a softmod work around for that, but if you strictly have hardmod only then you do need to update to use that feature.

As far as I know, it is best for hardmod Wii's to use the latest firmware, unless the latest update disables your modifcations. Just giving you a heads up on the bricking issue. I would say that the majority of the Wii's that were bricked from the 4.2 update were manufactured mid 2008 or earlier, the boot2 Wii's.
