    [QUOTE=pedropsilva;254477]Thank you for the explanation.
Not quite what I was expecting but at least I know why my DriveKey not work.
For the softmod, if I do this on my wii, I get to play backup games on dvd?
If so what is the best way to softmod for my wii.
    Thank you very much. [Quote]

I'll let a mod answer the "how to play backup games with a D3 V2 drive (what you have)" question. I believe you'll be limited to loading off of USB External Drive and maybe SD card, if you softmod.
I will tell you that I have a ton of computer experience (a notch below expert, no coding though) and hacking (including DISH Network, PS2, Garmin, Sansa) and the steps as outlined under "Tutorials" in the Menu bar at the top of this page here at WiiHacks seem pretty advanced. I would suggest you take it easy, don't take any updates right now, and read, read, read, and read some more. I don't even own a Wii yet, getting a used one from a friend of a friend (pretty sure she's a virgin, talking about the Wii of course ;-)). And I have limited knowledge. But I have been reading the last couple of weeks and knowledge is power. I can only hope the Wii I get is a "Pre-August 2009" model, which I heard she's a year old, so that sounds promising.
Anyway, good luck with your adventures in Wii Hackville. As for me, contemplating getting the "Wii DriveKey" if my console has a compatible drive. Or maybe the "WiiKey Fusion" ... yet to decide and hence how I ran into this post ... I'm reading and gathering info. on what is the best solution (running backups) to a problem (keeping my wii hacked) at the moment (right here and now because today's solution might not be the best tomorrow).
BTW, thanks WiiHacks.com !!! So far this is the best forum for info. regarding just that ... Hacking the Wii ....

    Good afternoon!
Thank you for the help you have given me.
After reading a lot on the Internet i got a doubt that I would like you to help me.
Is it possible to change my original DVD drive (GC2-D3-2 (V2)) by a new (D2C) and use my DriveKey and play my backups on DVD? Does my Wii accept another DVD drive than the original?
One more thing. I read that de Wasp2 chip works on de DVD drive (GC2-D3-2(V2). Is it true?
Thank you for the support you may give me.

I have a new Wii (GC2-D3-2) that I have changed out the drive mainboard to a GC2-D2B and installed a soldered in wiikey 2. I am having no problems playing backup wii games, but on only my region (NTSC) backups because I have upgraded to 4.2u firmware on my wii. So to answer your question yes you can just replace the drive and install the drivekey. Hope this helps.

    One more thing.
My Wii is PAL. If I change the DVD drive, will it influence the region of the WII?
Is the DVD drive that defines the region of the games?
By the way another question. What is the best DVD drive to replace the one I have now?
    Thanks again.

By the way, if I change my DVD drive, the firmware I have now (4.1u) will be changed?
If yes, how can I upgrade the firmware without connect to the Internet and without being 4.2.
    Thanks again.

Not sure about your first few questions, but changing your drive shouldn't automatically update your firmware. You don't need to and shouldn't update to 4.2 at all; you can still be connected to the internet without updating your wii. again, DO NOT update to 4.2. As you can see by this thread, many of us have and regret it.

no matter what they sell new drive board with old revs so you can swap your whole board for like $30 more bucks if need be....Drivekey with yellow sticker works on everything just stick to your region.

I have a drivekey and 4.2e (whoops) and some PAL games like SSBB dont work for me (but the same disc works for a friends soft modded wii) but my NTSC version of Mario Kart does work fine for me.

So Im not so sure about 4.2 only preventing out of region games. There seems to be more to it than that.

I'm on 4.2u...oops . I bought my wii just before xmas 09. When I opened my wii I discovered I might have the latest board (the one with black goo around the chips). However I installed the DriveKey anyways and it works fine with NTSC backups and originals. I have softmodded it (but backed up the orginal OS) while I was waiting for my chip, and can play pal games no problem. I'm about to try to convert some PAL games using regionfrii, and see if the results are favorable. If I can get PAL games to convert correctly, I'd restore my pre-soft mod backup. Will post the results when available...
