Hi guys I was looking into buying this chip but while I was searching for information I came across someone saying that you can play backup games by copying them to your SD card. Is that true and is that better then a mod chip?

Forget the chip. Softmodding is the way ahead. Check the guides on here. You can play back up discs, and even play games straight off you HD drive.

Oh I live this idea I'll check it out. Is there any dangers to wrecking my wii?

That guide will work no problem. Unless you have a wii that is LU64/LU65. Unlike the Twilight hack Banner Bomb does not need to be region specific.
I have made a few friends Wii hybrid (Chip and softmod) and they are very happy with them.

How can I tell if my is LU64 or LU65? and also what is a wii hybrid?

On the unit itself there is a serial number starting with LU (LE in my case) if yours is LU64 or LU65 you will have to try another guide.
A Wii hybrid (just name I call them) is a Wii that has been chipped and softmodded.
This is what Hybrid means: A hybrid is the combination of two or more different things, aimed at achieving a particular objective or goal.
The goal in this case is to make a kick as wii.

Mine is a LU so I have to go with a different route. Also my firmware is 4.1U does that matter?
