Drivekey - worked once

hi everyone. i'm new to this.
i just installed drivekey to my ntsc wii using newest verions 4.1u. i burned a copy of punch-out (usa version) using imgburn on dvd-r and it worked perfectly. i next tried a pal version of wii resort sports. the wii detected the disc and then it went black. after reading on the site i guess it tried to update. now, the wii can only play original games (no backups - not even the puch-out (usa) that worked initially. i am able to access the drivekey menu. i'm not sure what to do next. thanks in advance for your help

Thanks but i have already sent the update blocker to off. Now, the game asks for an update prior to starting but i sill cannot play it nor any other backup game. its as if this pal game caused something that i cannot reverse.

If you had It turned Off !! before you played a back up, the update may have caused the prob.

@aproia: Do you have any softmods/cIOS installed, which could interfer with the ability to play backup games?

When you initially tried the Wii Sports Resort PAL game disc, did you update the system from this disc? DriveKey default setting is to block upgrades from import games, but if you have changed this setting to "Off" in the DriveKey config menu before playing the PAL game, it may have updated your system with the PAL stuff - which could have resulted in the problem you have now.

However, it's a bit strange that you are able to play original games. And the rest of the Wii System Menu seems to work fine, too? I know you said you were able to play Punchout initially, but to me it sounds like you have problems with the games rather than with the DriveKey or the system menu. Please test some more backup games (unscrubbed NTSC games just to be sure), and maybe try burning to another brand of DVD-R media (Verbatim is generally recommended - but all brands seem to work for me).

I had the settings set to "import" (the default) and then set it too "off" once i realized things were not working. I dont have any softmods installed - only drivekey. when i tried wii sports resort, the drivekey was set with the default setting ("import"). it detected the backup copy, i clicked start and the wii froze (black screen). ever since then the backups have not been working. if the system was updated would pal stuff, how do i get it back to normal?

Never set it to "Off", in which case you are NOT protected against updates.

The default setting "Import" is perfectly fine in order to prevent the Wii from bricking. If you want to play extra safe, you can set it to "All", in which case all attempts to update the Wii from game discs are blocked, no matter if the game is from the same region as the Wii or not.

There are other reports that Wii Sports Resort (Europe) does not work in USA Wiis, despite using the latest Wii system menu (4.1u). This appears to be one of those games, which just don't work across regions from PAL to NTSC.

Could it be that you tried playing the game, got a black screen, then set the DriveKey update block setting to "Off", and then tried Wii Sports Resort (Europe) again at a later time and accidently ran the update from the disc (now that the cross-region update block was off)?

Anyway, please do some more tests of NTSC games the way I described in my above post.

ok, so i borrowed my friends version of ntsc back-up copy of punch-out to test on my wii (same brand dvd my copy). i inserted the disk and got the same black screen (eject bla bla bla). i tried it 3 more times and then it worked! I rebooted the wii to try again and the black screen came back. i tried again, and then it worked. its as if i need to try it 3 times to get it to work. Any ideas how i can get it to work on the first try? could there be a problem with the drive key. (ps i did set the setting back to import - thanks).

I think you should open up your Wii again and check the DriveKey installation. Are the cables connected correctly? Make sure the chip is protected/insulated by the sticker supplied with the chip.

And again, you need to test it with even more NTSC backup games (try 3-5 other games) to rule out potential problems with this particular game.

make sure the dip switches are set to ur region on the drivekey. leave ur drivekey set to block imports, and yes test more and more games, ntsc and pal. after u do more tests then it should point u in the direction of the problem. i would say its either the games, media & burning, or u could have a junk drivekey(which many of them exist).
