Us Drivekey installed in newer Wii

i wrote a review on the results of a drivekey install in my older launch day wii. i since put a wasabi dx/zero in that wii and had the drivekey as an extra. well i just bought another wii for $60, couldnt pass it up, and decided to put the drivekey in it. heres my results, very interesting.

Wii system:
LU63
GC2-D2E Epoxy chipset
softmodded 3.2u with HBC and Preloader
Silver drive ribbon cable
Drivekey with B4 diode
heres some pics of the cable and chipset: [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

with the given system a 4th generation chip is necessary so it worked out perfect. i installed the chip no problem. i was disappointed to find a D2E epoxy chip and a silver ribbon cable. it turned out not to be an issue at all. i went into the drivekeys menu and made sure all the settings were correct, and domestic & import updates were blocked. after that i started testing my games.

ALL GAMES WORKED FLAWLESSLY, DESPITE THE SILVER RIBBON CABLE.

gamecube-
splinter cell double agent
originals-
mario galaxy
WSOP tournament of champions
farcry vengeance
superswing golf
call of duty 3
brunswick pro bowling
wii play
wii sports
backups-
animal crossing ntsc
mario kart ntsc
LOZ twilight princess ntsc
punch out ntsc
carnival games ntsc
star wars force unleashed ntsc
hasbro fam game night pal
monopoly pal
game party 2 ntsc
carnival games mini golf ntsc
thrillville 2 pal
lego indiana jones pal
cabelas dangerous hunts pal
super smash bros brawl pal (single layered copy)
pool party pal
wii sports resort jap
donkey knong jungle beat pal

only one game will not work, and it wont work on my other system with the wasabi dx/zero either. thats simcity creator pal. so its not the chip. i am quite surprised in the outcome, considering im using the silver ribbon cable with it. whenever i had the drivekey in my other system it would not play animal crossing, now it does. it works even better in this particular wii. it just goes to show that results are influenced by many variables including the specific wii system u have. in my case everything is compatible with each other and works perfectly. whereas somebody else might do the same install and have countless problems.

as it looks right now, i received a full functioning drivekey. even though i purchased an advertised drivekey X4 and got a B4 instead. just because my drivekey is workin awesome, i would still not recommend the drivekey due to all those changes in diodes and the number of existing chips with problems.

Thanks a lot for the update. Interesting. I wonder what makes the difference from the first attempt you made with your launch day Wii.

Wrt the silver ribbon cable, reports from other users with an American-NTSC Wii indicate that the problem with the DriveKey b4/X4 diode version playing original games is only related to LU64/65 serial Wiis. So I am not surprised that this part works fine for you on your LU63 Wii.

BTW, I see you have the original Super Mario Galaxy. This is one game that has some serious stuttering in the intro video sequence when played as a backup with DriveKey (at least the PAL version, which I have, does). Could you test if DriveKey and/or Wasabi DX results in choppy video/audio when the original game is played, please?

i wasnt sure about when the silver cable posed a problem. it didnt affect my install. whenever u play mario galaxy using the original game disc it runs at full 6x speed through the drivekey and the wasabi dx. the 3x speed is only limited to backups. i discovered that out when i installed the drivekey on my 1st system.

if u have a lot of games not working then there is something wrong with ur modchip or ur burns. any differences between wii models resulting in problems would be a lot less minimal. like i said, the only difference between the drivekey in my old wii and in the new wii is 1 game, animal crossing wouldnt play in my old wii w/drivekey but it plays in the new wii w/drivekey.
