Update 4.1 Wii Menu

On July 15/16 Nintendo release a new update, 4.1. As per Nintendo's patch notes, there was no major updates to the system, but they did make "Improve System Performance". [Only Registered Users Can See Links. Click Here To Register]

While I seriously doubt there was an imporovment in the performance of the console, I do feel this is a poorly disguised effort to attack Wii modifications.

I have done some research and it appears to only affect the following:

Twilight Hack (successfully stopped by Nintendo)
Homebrew Channel (partially successful)
DVDX (partially successful)
And copy-protected copying of some savegame files (largely successful).

So it would appear, for now, that hardware modifications are still safe.

Please let us know your experiences if you have already updated to 4.1. Feel free to add or correct any information you KNOW is accurate. Thanks!

I have succesfully upgraded from 4.0E to 4.1E. DriveKey still works fine. I have tested both PAL and NTSC backup games after the upgrade, but not any original games, though. Also, please note that my Wii is not softmodded in any way.

So it seems like the big N is still sleeping when it comes to hardware hacks / modchips. Only countermeasures it has taken so fat are implementing some physical changes to the Wii drive chip (like the use of epoxy and D2Nothing/D3 drive chips), but perhaps this strategy will change in the future towards the ribbon type modchips like DriveKey, Wasabi DX and FlatMod. But again, DriveKey is not affected by the 4.1E update

I thought this exploit was already stopped by the 3.4 -> 4.0 update? AFAIK you can use the bannerbomb exploit for softmodding your Wii under both 4.0 and 4.1.

It does not affect the homebrew channel to my knowledge, or the bannerbomb hack. I could not install bootx or dvdx though.... I kept recreiving errors on the screen. Is this because of 4.1 or because of my wii?
