Question General and Quick Question in Regard to Game Compatibility and DriveKey

    Hi;

I recently have installed the Drivekey and just had a few quick questions with regard to running games and compatibility.

I typically refer to the following URL to get the list of the working games: http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/index.p...up_Launcher_v3

Some games, while they are commented to work, they have additional comments such as "Use the Error 002 fix". Is that a necessary step for Drivekey users as well?

Also some games such as Pro Evolution Soccer 09 request to update the system. If I use wiibrickblocker then it does not make the request but then the game won't run. So my question is
    (a) If it is safe to update?
    (b) Right now my system is version 3.4. Should I install Homebrew Channel before I proceed with the update so I can downgrade if I change my mind after the upgrade?

Thanks in advance for all your help.

Have modchip, no HB, no worries from same region game updates

if all you want to do is to play all the games etc....and you have a drivekey installed.....than IF a game from the same region as your wii asks to update.

    go for it!

but only a game from the same region...otherwise your wii may get bricked

The link you referred to is meant for softmodded wii's....

\yours is hardmodded with a modchip...so you don'y need to istall HBC or any of the other apps....just insert the games, update with same region game if prompted, play

First thank you very much fo rthe clarification!!!!

I am talking about the same region games! That is the good news!

So do I also understand you correctly that it also means if the chart that I linked earlier says to use some kind of fix such as the Error 002 Fix, I should ignor it and the game should work fine?

the chart you are looking at is regarding softmodded wii game compatability only

there is no need to go through...such a hassle with a hardmod
.... as with a hard mod at this time..there is 100% compatability or real close to it

with a hardmod....just play usually..if game needs update and its a same region game...go for it!

blackscreen....update with new release game from same region then insert game that gave you the black screen and play....

    modchip is hassle free...but not FREE..cost $$

added: erb247 mentioned "(b) Right now my system is version 3.4. Should I install Homebrew Channel before I proceed with the update so I can downgrade if I change my mind after the upgrade?

yes... I didn't mention that..but yes..if you think you may want to do HB in the future...install HBC and a new wad installer...1st before updating..!!!!!
    Thanks Erb247

Is there a good and informative FAQ on HBC? I am still not sure what it is really and if I have any interest in it! I would hate to ignor it and then one day say WHY!!!!

I am in pretty much the same position... I have recently bought a Wii and a DriveKey chip. My console has firmware 3.4e, and I am in doubt if I should update to 4.0e, since I understand it is not (at this time at least) possible to install the Home Brew Channel via the Zelda Twilight hack with firmware 4.0e.

I am trying to find out what the advantage would be to have HBC? As I have the DriveKey installed I can already play backup games, so I don't need any loader software - and I can live without having a DVD player in my Wii, too.

What about releases tagged as "VC" (Virtual Console) or "WiiWare"? Will I be able to play those (from an SD card or USB stick?), without the HBC?

But then I am also thinking that since the HBC (once installed under firmware 3.4 or below) apparently stays on the Wii after updating to firmware 4.0e, it probably wouldn't do any harm to install HBC now, just in case? Or perhaps there are potential conflict issues having softmodded the Wii with HBC and then updating beyond firmware 3.4?

What CoNS says is where my head is. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I guess the other question would be if there are any draw backs in installing HBC? If not then might as well go for it just in case!!!

the only real drawback is having to do the hack (downloading zelda(yes d/l will work with your drivekey) and sorting the files onto sd).

personaly i would rather have the HBC and not use it than not be able to have it and want to use it.

at the minute if you go to 4.0 without HBC installed you will not be able to get it until they find a new exploit(which will be who knows when). so to me it's worth doing first.

    as for

only if you pay for them from nintendo, the "free" stuff comes from HBC apps.

there is plenty of good tuts on this site for HBC install to keep your options open and get the best of both worlds

well I first looked at softmodding my Wii but i updated it 20 mins after hooking it up for the first time so that was never going to happen.

I personaly am glade I did!!!!!! If I didnt I would of tried to install all this crap that I dont need or may of installed it wrong and bricked my wii. Also the drivekey takes a good part of 20mins if you have no clue what your doing like i did but am so glad I went that way!!!

its played all games thrown at it and I got a ps3 I only use for bluray player (yeah it was free with a new tv) and my computer can play anything I can throw at it on high setting and got everything else media wise that can do everything and 1001 things more then a softmod wii can do so not really needed

but if you dont have a dvd player (who doesnt now?) and like some the apps I guess it may be worth it but for future games they may force to update and if there is no fix you wont be able to play them or you will lose your softmods
