yes i dont think drivekey will work as you need to boot the wii and boot the gamecube menu to change the settings as autoboot is not factory set. Also not sure if autoboot will bypass the problem.
If you are going to install one any way by all means try but if you are only buying it just to unbrick the wii maybe research a little more. Would be good to see if the autoboot will be able to load something to unbrick a wii though...
But as I say you will need to get the guys who send it to set the settings to auto boot befor its sent or get a working wii install it in there boot the settings menu and change the settings before installing it into your wii
I have been researching for weeks i have found many methods.

I suppose the gamecube rescue menu will be the only way unless my bluetooth chip cable fell out, i think i might just buy the tri-wing screw driver first.
Thanks for the help and links guys.
yes would be best to check that first but if its never been opened cant see why it would be the case.
If you want to go to a modchip anyway you can try drivekey I love it only thing is the scratchy audio on some games in cut scenes but other then that plas all games. but again i dont think it will unbrick it.
Hopefully you get it unbricked and can injoy it all again. As i say i rather chipped over softmod as i got the latest firmware and all games work with no stuffing around and worrying about trying to patch updates and risk bricking my wii
