ok just posted a similar question in other thread....Just recieved my drivekey today. If all I want to do is be able to play backup games. Is it really neccesary to worry about downgrading firmware?

I have 0 load issues with my drivekey. Softmods never excel above a modchip and as far as not using scrubbed on firmware over 3.3...BS i'm running 3.4u and using a few dozen scrubbed backups and they work perfectly...your informating is totally bogus

Jennifer I'd say go Drivekey and don't look back, I've had excellent success with mine
the scrubbed games loading is news to me but thanks for that info, as for load speed have a look at a few drivekey websites where it tells you it only loads at 2x speed LINK

Why are you reading this? its always the same!!

It's news too you because you don't have the mod chip to know, you're going by hear say off others who don't own it either. I have yet to see anyone say softmod is better than any mod chip solution yet. As far as load speeds go it doesn't load at 2x, it runs the drive at 3x and there is no really noticable difference between loading a backup or a original disc.

You may want to read the sticky at the top of this Drivekey thread, I'm pretty sure Modderman knows his stuff and as he states "You may have read that because it reads at 3x speed that it is a negative...well we have been testing and testing and there is absolutely no noticably difference in load times or play differences"

you are right i don't have a drivekey and don't want one, and i am going from what i have been told from some very informed people on this site, modderman being just one of them
modchipsupplier.com says it loads at 2x not me, if you read my first post i said it loads as fast as a softmod which is 3x. with bad media or a bad burn you are more likely to notice slow loads or jumpy video at 3x than at 6x, also where did i say the drivekey is not as good as a softmod? o thats right i didn't. mod chips are better i agree, but some mod chips are better than others thats all i'm saying, i am just trying to give the lady some options and a softmod is an option as is an expensive drivekey or a less expensive wiikey2 or the like

i am entitled to my opinion as are you, and thats all it is my opinion.

as for moddermans quote, he sells them he isn't going to say they are rubbish is he? (although if they where i'm sure he just wouldn't sell them) and i'm sure he knows how to burn a copy with good media and speed, i'm not so sure everyone else does

Ok just installed my drivekey(X4 diode as I would imagine they are all shipped this way now) And it's A OK!

Backup and originals no problem. And I am far from an expert but I didn't notice any kind of delay in game loading?

This was my first gaming system mod and couldn't have been easier. And after seeing the intricatecy of the circuit board I am glad I went with the plug and play vs. the solder(and I can solder).

Would much reccomend to anyone else!

I am running 3.4u firmware and since I plan to do nothing other than have the ability to play backup games I think I will take my chances with not downgrading.
If someone could give good reasons why I MUST downgrade firmware I would like to hear them.

Thanks to everyone who contributes to this site. got most of my modding support from here!

I agree that there has been no noticable delay in game loading....
However, I have noticed that my burned games seem to work better or DVD+R than DVD-R....anyboody have similar experiences??

I had the opposite issue, none of my +r burns worked that work in my wiikey modded wii. But -r's work fine, maybe a blindwrite issue

I'm new to burning games but have burned tons of movies on different drives, to be played in different drives, and on lots of different media.

My OPIONION is that all 3 of those variables have an effect on the outcome.

    TRIAL AND ERROR!

The worst part is that every time I find media that works for what I'm doing It disappears from the market.

I know it's already been suggested but maybe we should start a thread listing good working media along with which drive they worked flawless in. the problem with that is that I really feel like the drive it's burned in has an effect on it also.

I would also like an answer or some suggestions to this quote,i,ve had a Dk for a while now,but have not installed it yet, because i,m at 3.2 and at the moment am unsure whats best to have the FW at.
When 3.5 is releaesed it will prob shake things up a bit,so what do peps thing is the best FW to be on now,if u have a DK.
