It seems I have the same version as you. Same results. originals/backup OK with silver cable.Originally Posted by badz2211 [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]
However I am experiencing a problem with Super Mario Galaxy: The opening movie is NOT smooth at all... Have you tried it? Is it related to the 3x limitation of the chip or a bad installation/DVD media?
Thanks!

satyx2000, yeah i've noticed some slow load times, super mario galaxy seems fine for me though, i've only noticed the slower speed during Bully, sort of slow loading up. Maybe a firmware update will give us some more drive speed, we can only hope, it'd be sweet to have at least 6x
billyhome, yeah on sony dvd -r's i overburned at 18x without issues, i'm using a sony sata burner too
will give sony a trial................ at 52X. lol
Hi!
I just installed a DriveKey into a D2E with no epoxy NTSC/UC. Install was a snap. Set jumpers to 1-OFF/2-ON (NTSC). Plays backups perfect, however, originals will not work. Silver drive cable in the WII. Tried disabling the DriveKey using the config menu (eject 3 times from Main Menu, pressed the reset key to highlight and disable drivekey), still no go.
My drivekey looks like the one of the left in the original post. I guess I'll either have to check with the distributor to see if the other key is available, or, try getting a WIIKey2+Clip instead, since I there is no epoxy on my chip.
Anyone else have any luck trying to get the originals working on a similar configuration?
MD
I have the left one (SO) and my wii has a silver cable. It wil not read orig games. Is this the solution? Do I have to replace this cable or can I swap the cables?Originally Posted by Console Specialist [Only Registered Members May View Links| Click here to register]
I believe you can buy the ribbon cables at Radio Shack, I'm not 100% sure on this.
I would take Console Specialist's advice on the solution of changing the siliver cable though, he deals with lots of chips and has tested it and it worked, so worst case is you change that silver cable out which really isn't hard to do and end up with a perfectly working Drivekey.
Hi all,
Every one with a silver drive cable
Drivekey confirms that is a problem

Yeah it looks like the problem was the W3 diode on some of the first shipments, the chips with the X4 diode don't have any problems at all, with silver cable or without, so now we know what the problem was.
Below is an image that shows where the diode is and what an X4 looks like.

Sporadic issues relating to original game discs
Posted on 9th March 2009
Over the last few days, we have been made aware of a problem affecting a small number of DriveKey chips in circulation. This problem only affects DriveKey chips with a W3 diode (next to the LEDs) when installed in a Wii with a silver drive cable. If you are able to play backup game discs but not original game discs, you may be affected. Please contact your point of sale for details on how to proceed and rest assured that the DriveKey team are 100% committed to solving this issue for everyone.
