Replaced the DVD drive, drivekey isn't reading discs

So the drive that came with my wii stopped working, since I guess I had a disc that was in the drive with glue in there for too long and it had trouble ejecting my disc. And it won't spin when I insert a disc.

So now, I purchased a replacement drive off ebay (New Defect DVD Drive Replacement Repair for ALL Nintendo Wii Console System | eBay) and my drivekey doesn't seem to work. It would load original games, but won't load any of my backed up games.

Does anyone have any suggestions on how can I fix this?

Easiest way (but on other hand not so easy) is to swap drive board from your broken drive to new one so you will have old chip controller in your new dvd drive. Problem is that this swap need some soldering and I don't know will you be able to do this.
Another way could be buying another dvd drive but with correct drivechip (D2(x) or lover) that is supported by your drivekey chip.

Of course you could try to clean your old dvd drive and with some luck you will fix it ;)

any images/maps on how to do this? I don't know much about DVD drives/wii drives, but I'm pretty comfortable with soldering and such... I miss the olden days where we had the solder in our mod chips :D

Or anyone know a place I can buy a drive with the correct drivechip? :) Might be the easier way.....

Thanks Beerfield! You have been very very helpful! I'll prob just cough up the extra $30 to get the new drive.. easier that way as you said.. I totally didn't realize there are different chips in the drive itself (d'Oh!).
