giving something back to the donating people

Just a thought, but why not give a little credit to the paying people..
Not litterally of course but like if you contribute (financially) you lose the ads..

This might give more paying members.. ads and banners are an annoyance. If you lose the ads and banners with a donation of $5,- or higher this might help in getting some money in...

Just an example of course..
I didn't think of this, there are other communities that work like this.
It's always free but you get a little extra functionality to make life easier if you donate..

The ads really never bothered me as there are really not any at all...

but a decent idea...

The ads help finance the site. Also, donators get access to the exclusive donators section of the forum and permission to pm mods. Sounds like pretty good incentive to me.

Maybe not you, but maybe others.
This is just a forum so I can't really think of others options that might be nice to have.. faster downloads might be an idea but that would probably a lot of work to implement and pretty useless since you use mediafire........

I posted this in the newbie discussion (sorry, but someone was asking a lot about donations so I posted this suggestion) and a mod suggested to post this somewhere where a lot of mods read because he or she thought it was a cool idea...

so I did

Lots of our links are external and hosted on users accounts like mediafire. The biggest file would be one of the softmod packs that can't be larger than 40MB. Download speed for most things is beyond our control.

Yeah my suggestion was to post this in the Site Suggestion forum, but I suppose this one will work as well. As for download speeds like junkmail said that's out of our hands.

I've never viewed the ads here as very intrusive, and I can say from personal experience there are sites I can't stand going to because of their giant barrage of ads.

My opinion is that you already get a lot of reward for donating as it is, and that's an opinion I was pretty vocal about well before my affiliation with the site. I'm speaking primarily of the special forums, but being able to PM any of us for help ain't too shabby either.

It is.. For me however there's always a line the issue has to cross before PM'ing moderators.. it has to be a really big issue before PM'ing a MOD..
I know this isn't the same for everyone though....MODs get PM'ed simply because the community doesn't respond fast enough...

But how about adding a symbol for payers.. so you'll have a certain 'status' ?

Umm... you mean like the Donator Banner, which is widely known?

Am I missing something? No Ads on the site at my end.
