D2pro9 v3 Question

I have not updated my wii yet with the updated firmware, cause I haven't played any games lately, maybe months. But I just downloaded the Star Wars game and I get this message when loading: "if your wii console has an unauthorized technical modification, this upgrade could cause inoperability of your console".

I do have the D2pro9 v3 (soderless). Am I still okay with the update? Or will my wii get screwed?

You'll be fine. That message is a sort of scare tactic. At this point none of the updates affect any of the chips. The latest update (3.3) will however block Trucha Signed discs from running, so some of your discs may not work any more. This has nothing to do with the chip though, and you will still be able to run those discs using Gecko OS.

I don't mean to steer this thread in another direction, but what do you mean by 'Trucha Signed discs'? Is it like an encryption found in newer games or something found on backups? I tried reading other treads about it but they weren't very clear.

yep...trucha signed means that there is a copy protection patch in the boot sector in the game so the game will not boot at all unless there is a kind of override (such as Gecko OS) to allow the game to play

So this means that not all games have them? Only newer ones? Was I right about that? And does the same go for their backup counterparts? If Mario Kart is trucha signed (hypothetically), will its backup also be? And vice versa...if original isn't then the backup won't be? Is this how it works?

an example of a trucha signed game would be the custom guitar hero games. the unmodified backup will work but the modified backup won't.
so trucha signed games are basically modified games.
