I think you can get the Wasabi V3 or Wiizard chip also which are highly recomended. I'm not sure if you can get those though, but I think they could be used.

Ergh well V means Version so I would take it that Version3 is more of an updated version then the V2. xD Sorry I am trying to help but Homebrew is more of my thing lol

They basically the same except they come with different Actel and SPI firmware versions
D2Pro9v2 has 2.2 HW firmware and 1.5 SPI, it could also have lower versions depending on the reseller
D2Pro9v3 should come with 2.3 HW firmware and 1.6 SPI firmware
I believe the D2Pro9v3 which had some problems now should work on all Wii drive type from D2C to D2E, but you should alsways confirm that with the reseller to make sure.

Can a d2pro 9 v2 be updated to 2.3/1.6? I'm not having any issues but I think I don't have that version, do I need to upgrade my chip? I don't have inching or ejecting issues, and so far all my backups and original games play fine.
I have a d2c drive.

So far the d2pro 9 v2 works perfectly on d2c drives (unlike v3 sometimes), especially for me. Not to mention it is cheaper than the v3 and it's pretty much the same thing.
I'd recommend v2 unless you have a d2e chipset.
