D2pro Stopped Reading Disks After Playing Epic Mickey

I have an NTSC Wii with a D2pro 5 wire chip on a DMS drive. Wii has firmware 4.3U and D2pro was updated to 1.8 a few months ago. I bought the drive a year or two ago and it has worked flawlessly up until the other day. For the holidays my sister bought Epic Mickey and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows as a present for my son. Harry Potter game did not require an update, but Epic Mickey did a short quick update. Played the 2 games fine for a day and a half. Then my son was playing Harry Potter for about 20 minutes or so and got the black screen with white letters saying Disc Cannot Be Read. Took HP out and rebooted Wii. Tried Epic Mickey and it worked. Put HP back in and got read error again. Now all discs get read error.

Does anyone know if either of these games have caused problems or has anyone else had this happen? Or has the drive just died of old age? The D2pro always seemed to run hot so could the heat have finally taken it's toll on the drive? Or did the Epic Mickey update kill it?
