At last My D2Pro works, why does it make Noise? Firmware update confusion!

    I Purchased a D2pro on a Wii Clip. Didn't work.

So I decided to take it out of the clip and solder it. It works now and plays backup images. Hooray.

The only thing is now it makes a louder noise while reading, is this what people call inching?

I went to try and use a DVD firmware update and it says the following.

    *** D2PRO UTILITY UPDATE V1.7 ***

    IM D2E SYSTEM HW V2.4 FW v1.6

    New firmware version available

    Firmware upgrade
(v1.7) is required to use this utility disc.

Do not remove the utility Disc.

Hold down reset button for three seconds to proceed.

Reset doesn't work, I have to power off the console.

So does this mean I need to use a Jtag programmer to update to firmware 1.7 then I can use the DVD updater. Will this solve the noise it makes while reading Backup disks?

    Thanks

generally, drive noises increase after being modded, i have heard in friends wii's and my own. that said,

the 1.7 update utility disc updates the software in the d2pro9

the jtag programmer updates the hardware in the d2pro9

so it why the disc says this

    *** D2PRO UTILITY UPDATE V1.7 ***

    IM D2E SYSTEM HW V2.4 <--hardware version FW v1.6 <--software version
    ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
updating by disc, wont make the drive quieter but give you a new configuration option for the chip to bypass game updates, making your wii brick proof! nice free update i thought i havent read any reports about not being able to update with the disc, so i recommend that you have another go

and let us know how it goes

    Hi,

Have tried burning the disk again. Still freezes at the same point and won't let me reset.

When the blue screen comes the disc stops spinning and I can't load the disk and I have to turn off the wii.

As I said before backup images of games are running fine.

So I have Chip firmware 2.4. I can't find any reference to this on the D2pro site. It does say that D2E drives shouldn't use V2.3!

What I don't understand is why the blue screen says ......

    Firmware update
(1.7) is needed to upgrade this utility.

But the title of the blue screen says....
    *** D2PRO UTILITY UPDATE V1.7 ***

i have read that other people have 2.4 hardware on the chip, and i looked on the site as well, not there and i dont understand why.

i would suggest you pm Spyman, i am sure he would oblige in helping you and would also know actual details on the matter, as they do testing on the chips they sell and work with
