Question Should I perform Wii system update 3.4?

Hello, everyone. I'm new to the scene and I've just installed a D2pro 9 wire. I've tried 5 backups and only 2 of them work. Now I've read that Verbatim dvd-r is the preferred media, but I'm wondering if a system update is necessary for other backups to work properly. Also, is there a special way to install a system update to get the good stuff and avoid disabling my chip/wii? For the record, I have backups of:

    Super Mario Galaxy
    Metroid Prime 3: Corruption
    Mario Kart Wii
    Super Smash Bros.: Brawl
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess

Of these backups, only Mario Galaxy and Metroid work.
Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

brawl and mario kart have special updates and brawl is very hit or miss on burning
the rest might be broken or etc

    updating wont fix them

if you play out of region, and use homebrew dont update, if you dont do either feel free

    Thank you for your response.
Special updates? How do I go about applying them? Is it one special update for multiple games?
Is there anything I'm missing out on by not doing the system update? I guess I probably won't do it because I would like to look into emulation. If what I have read thus far is true, then the only systems that can be emulated on the wii are nes, snes, sega genesis and gb/gbc. I'm sure there are multiple versions of each, but I would really appreciate it if you could tell me which ones are superior.
    Thanks again for your help.

    neo geo
    nes
    snes
    genesis
    gc
    gb - gba
    64
    PSX
and 1 other one are the ones i know of

as for updates some games just have things

    brawl has dual layer support
animal crossing has IOS 38 update
    etc
you MUST get them from the game itsself or a wad somewhere, to get the update, just put the game in the drive with the actual update, and it will install only the update, if you have the firmware it has or higher, i dont know what has what, or what needs what, or any of that, i just know what i play, or big things i know of like the big 3 games and the patch that was needed back when they were new and stuff like that
