Question Just bought a chipped wii, but ... is it chipped?!?

I'm living in Korea, and just bought a "chipped" Korean Wii, which I've been told has a D2Pro chip in it. My question is - how do I know that there's an actual chip inside? Or alternatively, did I just get screwed?

I'm not new to the modding scene, as I've dabbled in the original Xbox, and I'm well aware of the softmod vs. hardmod forms of chipping. When I want to play a game on my system that is non-Korean region, I have to load the Homebrew applications, and then start up the Gecko region free program from an SD chip. To me, that's a softmod, but I was assured that there is a chip inside.

Now I'm stuck. Am I running a soft mod, or would I need a chip in my system to do this? Any help would be appreciated.

thats soft, atm there is little difference between the 2

mod = it just works period
soft mod = a lot of programs in the channel
gecko OS, twilight hack, backup booter

theres 2 ways of knowing 100% if its really there or not
    1. making a few backups in Korean region *im sure you have atleast 1 game, or can get one to make into a back up*
    or and the more logical
    2. opening it up and looking xD, the 2 screwdrivers needed should be about 10 - 20 bucks together maybe even less, and to learn if its really there or not, 20 bucks doesnt seem too out there

Do the backups have to be Korean region? I have backups of N.American regions, but not Korean (as of yet).

So if I am running backups I shouldn't just be able to play them. I *do* have to go through the homebrew, yes?

Also, my Korean Wii is only in Korean language. Is there any way to set this to English language? I'm running the Wii dashboard v3.3K

If you have the D2pro9 chip than you can download the 1.6 config disc image and burn to dvd. When you insert it into Wii with D2Pro9 it will tell you the current firmware version of the D2pro9 Actel chip and the SPI version.
