    Thumbs down Red light/inching. v1.6 Utility Disc wont update chip WTF?! ;_;

Hello fellow sufferers of red light/inching issues:

Bought chip from www.foundmy.com, D2PROv6 + Wiiclip pre-soldered, and installed it just getting an always lit red light. I didn't knew it was actually bad since I put a backup and it loaded (thru inching) so I closed it. Still it was on the back of my mind that, dammit, that's some pretty weird behavior. So upon goggling I found this horror book of red light/inching issues and now I have hit panic mode.

One of the things that piss me off is that although I told foundmy in the comment section of the order that the chip was for a D2C they sent me the chip with HW2.2 FW1.6. So I burned the v1.6 Utility Disc from official website and although it say it flashes then reload Utility Disc still say the HW2.2/FW1.6. Backups will work but they will load thru inching and like I have read almost everywhere that this will damage the drive.

So my possible options would be:

    1) try the J point solution. (chip came with jumper)

    2) ask for my money back

    3) ask for a wiikey2

    4) ask them to flash my chip.

So any other option to try? Maybe try to realign chip? Maybe those mentioned in another order? Thanks in advance!!!

In order to fix this issue, your hardware firmware needs to be updated to 2.3, which is done with a programmer, and not updatable with the utility disc.

Thanks for your quick reply peKkerhead,

Well if I need the programmer then I cant help but feel cheated not only by foundmy for sending me a chip with old FW, but from the folks from D2pro as well because they say the chip is flashable/updateable via disc...

I was thinking about doing a proper solder of the chip since this has "fixed" the issues for a lot of ppl but again if I solder the thing on then theres no option to update since I dont have the programmer... or do the option becomes avaiable if the chip is soldered?

And so my Wii chip journey has already begun...

Which d2pro9 do you have? version 2 or 3
depending on the version, will determine which firmware is flashed on it. Yes on the site it says dvd updateable but they are talking about the dvd utility disc. There are 2 different flashes you can do with your chip.

My best advice is to contact your retailer and try to work out a deal with him. Also other more experienced members on this board might have a better solution for you.

The chip I bought is a v2. Exactly the combo here:
    Foundmy.com Console Solution - D2Pro9 v2 SPECIAL (D2Pro9 V2 + V4C Clip + Bonus)

Well those 2 flashes sure are confusing... maybe they just wanted to get a bit of more gold with those adapters. Am I mistaken or other chips DO allow to do a proper flash from DVD? (Wasabi, Wiikey etc...)

I'll wait a couple days like you suggest and see if another user have a different solution. Thanks!

Okay, so you don't have to worry about being ripped off. The v2's generally come with the 2.2 Hardware flash.
The DVD flash component is just for problems like certain games are not working etc.. basically software side.
The hardware flash with the programmer is used to fix issues with hardware, like inching etc.. slow eject...
If you can try the j point solution, but I don't know if that will work because i have never had that problem. Someone on this board might be able to flash the chip for you as well if you ask nicely.
    Cheers and good luck

Just to update and bump this thread to warn people wanting to chip their Wii.

Bought the chip from foundmy.com and now the website seems to be down. Upon goggling the website I found this link: foundmy.com - Reviews, Ratings and Prices at ResellerRatings and the store have abysmal reviews... So a word of advice: Apart from researching the chip to put in your $250 entertainment investment, also do research about the store to buy your chip. Tech support and ease of return for this type of thing is definitely a must. Now I have a chip that will potentially damage my console and a website that is no longer online...

Just to do a quick follow up to my situation... and bump for other possible solutions...

Tried to contact Foundmy.com several times and still no response ... way to go with those people ... The drive still have the inching/red light problem.

Still I would like to know If theres a workaround to fix this or I would need to buy the programmer? The chip when installed with the wiiclip show a solid red light but backups seem to work (via inching)... I have read that The CLK/J point may give me the oh so desired red/blue light.

Can any other forum member help? If the programmer is required where can I get it? I have searched a couple sites and seem to be sold out!!

I was also thinking sending the ship to another retailer to have it flashed but perhaps it would be better to just buy the thing in case another flash update comes out and need to do the whole ship process again and again...

Edit: Before install I used a multimeter to test all the points from d2ckey to the wii drive chip. they all seem to be fine.

wow, well #1 congratulations on actually getting the product , I'm surprised.

#2 the d2pro9 you should get is the d2pro9 v3 2.3/1.6 , the distributor should be giving you the latest firm possible with bugs fixed, unlesss its for a d2a/dms/d2b then 1.1b works the nicest I find. D2PRO9 udpates the spi via dvd and major updates involving chipset functionality changes need to be via jtag. This goes for all chips but other chips you dont have the ability to do that.

I am all out of programmers, havent needed to stock in a long time since v3 2.3/1.6 has been out for ages now, but perhaps I can get my hands on one.

If you have some soldering skills, unsolder the clk point, and solder the j on the chip to the j point on the wii drive board.
If that doesnt work there are a couple more tricks , but try that one first.

Yeah I should have researched that better... good the googles hit you with this website up first. You want to know the funny part? I ended up ordering with them to save five bucks... But dont worry I already punched myself in the nuts.... twice.

Most definetly would be handy to have one around just in case D2PRO updates the chips again... So is the D2Prog the same as a JTAG programmer? Is that something you can buy off Radioshack?

Will do first thing tomorrow and will let you know how it goes...
