I burned my first 2 games this week (Sony DVD-R disc, Speed set at 2x with Ativa DVD writer with Lightscribe) as I had my D2CPro9 installed last week. Big Beach Sports played good for 2x and then started the path of failed loading (10-15% success rate only). Then Guitar hero WT which loaded easily on my first 2 attempts kinda just behaved the way beach sports did as so did Far Cry Vengeance and Wii Music (patched with anti-bricking software).

What am I doing wrong here? Pls help!!

have you tried different DVD-R's ?

i success with HP discs. first time around i tried Imation discs. they loaded up and showed on the game screen but always gave me a "game Could not be Read."

try different media, that's what everyone suggests.

yes, somebody suggested trying verbatimn dvd-r made in japan or singapore. i just wished i didn't buy that 50pcs yet.

so if my wii is still booting to the wii menu, that means my console is still good, right?

Wii DVD drive is not very forgiving with bad media, nothing wrong with your Wii or the mod chip, I think they tweaked the drive laser or firmware to less forgving to errors generated by bad media. Imgburn will tell you what media code your DVD-R is, check them over at DVD Media and Blu-ray Disc Media list.

BTW, not all Verbatim are good...I couldn't find made in Japan/Singapore here and settled with Made in Taiwan, they all share the same MCC code, but the ones that are made in Taiwan are either manufactured by Prodisc or CMC, so the quanlity is different. I have two spindle of MIT Verbatim 16X DVD-R, one is much better than the other. Download Nero CD/DVD scan (google it and you should find the offical link to it) and if you burner support it, do a quanlity scan and see if your burn is any good.

Back to the two spindles..one of them Will has a hard time with it, the other is ok as long as the Disk quanlity score is over 80 but I only keep those that are 90 or over otherwise I'll reburn them....still looking for better media myself.

if it's the back-up discs are the culprit how come even my original copies like Mario Olympics and the Mario Kart are loading but as soon as I hit the Start button to start the game it gives me a "black error encountered" screen. do i need to take out the chip and then re-update my firmware thru wii wi-fi?

its not even the issue of burn speed anymore. even my original discs who flawlessly played before, just stopped being read and won't play anymore. does that look like it s a simple burn issue?

there is a possibility that the laser is just weak. the other possibility is that your chip/clip isnt put on right and is actually shorting somewhere.

You will need to use a Magnifying glass to check the wii-clip pins.
Check for any bent pins, horizontally bent pins (these are hard to spot) and mashed plastic. Use a utility or stanley knife to try and straighten it up. Be careful not to break any of the pins.
