It is a V2 chip 9-wire version I believe. I am still having periodic issues with it not shutting off. I have seen it totally freeze up with a black screen while using the Wii channels, but don't remember it happening with any games.

The wires are definitely routed correctly now. I will double check the chip is pressed on all the way. When it was installed I pushed it on very firmly like the tutorials stated. Otherwise the Wii has played backups with no issues.

I guess it depends on your definition of functioning properly. Backups play fine, and I've been using the http loader to rip games.

The not shutting off is annoying, and it started when the chip was installed. Odd thing is if I eject the game first it will shut off fine.

hmmmmm another weird problem I need to add to my wii book of problems, well even though the chip is allowing you to play your backups perfect, it seems that the chip is having a hard time resetting itself for the wii to shut off and it suppose to shut off even if a game is in the drive. hmmmmm.....and have you tried the chip in another wii (like your friend's own) and does it have the same problem?
Thanks everyone for the great support.

It's more a nuisance than anything, and I don't want to pull the chip out and risk breaking the pins.

My friends have asked me to mod their wii's, and it seems this chip has been a little flaky. Which chip would you reccomend? I have modded dozens of Xbox's and am pretty descent at soldering. I looked at the Wii and the soldering on it was more intricate than anything I've done. So my preference is one of the clip-ons.

yeah I know what you mean, it is quite intricate, for you my friend I will recommend the wasabi v3 with wiiclip for if you don't want to damage your friend's wii (I personally find that the wasabi is a little more rocksolid and stable)
Thanks everyone for the great support.
