I got the new one today, still no joy until my friend unsoldered the clk and put a wire between the 2 j points. Works fine now.

    Thanks all.

by the way I got mine from 360upgrades.co.uk, the guy there was really helpful and it arrived the next day.

Man im freaking out. I got my wii about a 2 months ago, all test point t0 a d2e chipset. I purchases a d2pro v3 with wii clip from modchip central. Never heard anything too bad about them, saw they worked well. Then i get onto this site see that cover the chips in apoxi and that my solderless clip might night work withouth soldering.
So what are my changes of unscrewing a few screws, cliping on the wii clip and playing my backups right away?

Its hard to say, I do not know the range of serial numbers when the epoxy was added. Worst case is you cant use the clip and you need to solder the d2pro - if you are not happy doing it - then dont screw up the drive board, get someone local to you to do it.

The clips are so sensitive, I do not think they would fit well, even if all the epoxy was cleaned off - you will need to solder

Only way is to pop the cover and check the chip

chances are you are still good, weve only got 1 of these drives and we did successfully mod it last night. We are looking into the possibilities of how users can do it easily and so wiiclips can still be used as well.

I prefer to use the wasabi on the new drives with the epoxy on them.....this chip tends to stabilise the drive and boots all the backups and originals flawlessly.
Thanks everyone for the great support.
Hope to hear from you soon, cause i'm getting ready to retire from the modding scene.

Thats good to here. I dont think the difference is right or wrong here i think is which one you want to get.

Im not to worried about the epoxy, im more worried about soldering.

Do most people with a d2e chipset need to solder the J points, and unbridge the clk?

Ive only ever soldered once in an electronics class. I did an ok and the device worked.

But how much is a soldering iorn and stuff be.

Not all the D2E Drives unless it is one of the really fussy kind of drives.

If you need to refresh your memory on how to solder I've made a tutorial on the FAQ part of this forum called soldering 101 for future technicians....you will like the tutorial....
Thanks everyone for the great support.

The tut on soldering is good, but I have to say its an SMD chip and you are soldering 0.5mm pins and trying not to solder 2 pins together. If you overheat you might take the track off the board. I would practice on a junk board with SMD components first - its cheaper especially if you have only done soldering 101.
You really need a temperature controlled iron or station from around $70 upwards. Some solder, some desolder braid if you make a boo-boo, some tweezers and if you have crappy eyesight, a desk magnifying glass of X4, some 30 AWG kynar wire, some 26 AWG wire for power points, a philips and triwing screwdriver. Think that will do
