Is there a scenario where the soldering is most likely to be required?
Like, maybe the D2C Wii's or the newer Wii's are more common needed to be soldered even after purchasing the solderless chip in comparison to the DMS/D2B Wii's ?
Or is it completely random ?

Oh and how can you tell when you need to solder the J points with the solderless chip :P

See, that's the problem. There is no set scenario. At this point it seems to be random. I've mostly seen issues on the D2C systems though. So yes, the D2C is more common to require more work.

You can tell you have to solder when the chip doesn't work like it should

But to answer your question that is the right chip that you are getting. But i would tell them to update it to 2.1 before they send it to you that way you will have the lastest firmware and will not need a d2prog.
    Thanks nexxi,
    and jebise,

    Hi,
We dont recommend it as we've found a few bugs with it. For d2a/dms/d2b it
works flawless with 1.1b firmware so why ruin it by updating uncessarily.
The update fixes bugs with the d2c/d2c2 chipsets only, and we found on a
few systems its creating some problems so they are re-releasing a new
    version soon as well

do you mind my asking how new your wii is? did you just buy it? what does your serial begin with?

I'm only asking because I'm wondering if your current situation fits mine. Just got my wii and my serial# begins with LU58. I want to be sure I'm getting the right chip, etc.

Stick with the 1.1b until they come out with a newer firmware that actually works. Even the 1.1b can be buggy, but it's nowhere near as bad as the latest firmwares they've released.

Doggone D2Pro team, trying to be on top by releasing their firmwares first but they don't even work right. And then to top it all off when a new fw does come out that noone else has they make you buy a brand new chip because they don't want anyone else to get their hands on the fw.

I already bought the D2Pro9 but am still waiting for it to arrive. I'm wondering in what circumstances you need to solder the J-J points. After a lot of reading it seems that if it dosn't work without then try it with. How do you know when to use the J-J soldering and the CLK? I was planning on just cliping the chip in and seeing if it works. If not should I then do J-J or CLK?

u don't need to worry about all this stuff anymore!

D2pro just released an alternative 2.1 update that fixes the problems for d2c users.
Go to d2pro : Home right now and get the update!

I know where to solder the parts

Yesterday, I went on the D2pro website they show where to solder the points from the modchip to the point in the drive.
    I hope that will help!!
