    Modchip D2E A9 - How do I upgrade firmware to 4.X

    Hi everybody,
I had my Wii modded with a D2E 9A chip a year ago and no problems so far. Now that more and more games ask for system update, I would like to update, but do I need to change the modchip's firmware first? Can I update from Nintendo over the internet? Haven't found a decent website with firmware updates for the modchip, does it use Wasabi updates?
I have a 2E drive, version 3.3U, no brickblock (I can still access the Wii settings)
There is no homebrew installed, will I need this? Basically I just want the newer games to work without disabling the old games, nothing more.

    Help is greatly appreciated.

Updating via internet will give you 4.2 which breaks out of region backup playing with modchips.

Updating via discs will bring your System Menu up to date and also your game IOS. The latest update available per disc is New Super Mario Bros Wii which comes with 4.1.

If you wish to avoid updating by disc then you'll need to softmod, it's simple though, try Dogeggs tutorial http://www.wiihacks.com/recommended-...d-any-wii.html At the end you will have 4.1 and a few new IOS.
Not really doing much Wii stuff these days.

Thanks, I'll go ahead and check if New Super Mario does the trick, seems to be easiest way. However, as far as the comments for this game go, it seems not to run on modchips alone. Next option will be softmodding according to the tutorial you recommended...

Updating would work regardless of the issues that modchips have with NSMB. It's also easier to mod directly from 4.1 than it is from 3.3 anyway so it's a bonus for you.

Just managed to update to 4.1U. New Super Mario Bros. updated to 4.1U, but still Wii Sports Resort wouldn't run. As Sports Resort asked for another update, I let it update from the Sports Resort disk and now I have 4.1U (again), but with Sports Resort working and a few other games which had asked for an update are working too.
Thanks a lot again for your help.
Now if someday soon I felt like playing New Super Mario, I'd go search the tutorials on this site, because as you said the game requires some soft modding even with a modchip installed.
