D2Pro and 4.2U - Only NTSC not PAL - Help!

I have a Wii NTSC with D2Pro9 f/w 2.3 util disk 1.7. This is the only mod is the chip. Console it at 4.2u. Just before updating to 4.2u / System update 41212 I was able to play PAL backups without issue on 4.1U
.
Now when I insert a PAL disk it spins for a few seconds and stops. There is no icon change on the Wii menu. If I use a USA NTSC it works fine.

If I use the Gecko loader I am able to swap disks and it works fine.
I am guessing that this is due to 4.2u blocking other regions. I looked at the D2pro9 config and region patcher is enabled.

1) Is this is problem with the D2Pro9?
2) How can I play PAL backups again
3) How can I downgrade from 4.2u to 4.1U? I cant find step by step on this as I am new to this I need this help. Can someone please walk me through to getting back to 4.1U if the D2pro chip cant be fixed.

I am in the same boat as you, check out the link below it has a lot of info. I am pretty new at this too but from what I've gathered;

1) No
2) Various options through homebrew
3) Can't do it yet.. hopefully d2pro will sort out a firmware update, I've been considerng WODE as a good alternative as I don't like the potential risks with soft-modding.

I found a way! It is listed here too. You need to install the 4.2U hack then when done you can downgrade to 4.1U. Here is the steps and info that I used on another forum.

Do the modify 4.2 then the 4.2 to 4.1 and it works.

I do hope that the chip makers come out with a firmware fix for 4.2.

Thanks J_internet, i have tested it and it WORKS! I Have Downgraded my 4.2E Wii back to 4.1E and now i am able to Play other Region games again(with the help of the D2Pro of course):D:D:D:D

I tested this myself! It worked on my NTSC USA/CANADA modded with D2pro (9wire) ... I'm back to 4.1 and enjoying my PAL and NTSC-J games :D

For noobs: If you already have 4.2 no need to download the first set of links that are posted above in J-internet's post! For instructions google "Modify any Wii 4.2 & below" and follow only the "Modify 4.2" and "4.2 to 4.1" to downgrade!

I'll be trying this out shortly and let you know how it goes. I'm guessing I'll need the HBC to get this to work

ok i updated my wii with a d2pro to 4.2u which erased my homebrew and now some of my games will not load (although its not just pal games, as i converted all of my games to ntsc)

i followed the instructions and got homebrew working again

i followed and completed all steps to part d with no problem.

still those disks do not autoload as they used to.

i am thinking that by downgrading back to 4.1u i should get back to where i was. as i am not an expert in these areas, i dont want to brick my wii. so should i do this and if so can someone point me to some easy directions?

my d2pro chip is one of the first production runs, and they never gave me a cable to update the firmware, so i am still running the original firmware if that matters?

Upgrade FPGA - Need Cable installed with mini USB connecter.

Upgrade SPI - Burn ISO to disk & run it.

Uexboxmods dot com put the chip & usb updater in the Wii we got for my son. Been working great for over 2 years or so now. Just did both upgrades that were available on the D2PRO web site. Nothing really new there though. The upgrades were pretty old. Only this past two months have run into problems running a couple of backups of my son's Wii Games.:cool:

what is fpga and spi? i am assuming you mean the firmware on the d2pro? i have ordered the usb programmer and cables, hopefully will get next week. Are people using the d2pro with 4.2 and getting all their old games to work, are some of mine not working b/c my firmware on the d2pro is not up to date?
any help would be great, since i have 4.2 working for most disks i would rather not downgrade to 4.1 if all i need to do is upgrade my d2pro.
