I was able to run this game without any softmods beyond the HBC using the Gecko OS. Just throw the Gecko OS in your apps folder on the SD card and then make a folder name codes and throw the nsmb code in that folder.

Thank you very much for the guide torange. I am running a launch Wii, D2Pro9 and 3.1u. I have been trying everything to get NSMB to work and could not play for more than 10 mins. I followed your steps and although I never had an option to "update" or "add signature patch" with the version of dop-ios you have linked here, I installed IOS53_v5149 with it and I have been playing for 39mins. Thank you so much!

I was wondering if instead of doing this

Download SMNE.dol, and place it into your NeoGamma (root) folder
I could create a USB Loader GX folder and place the SMNE.dol into to make it work on USB Loader GX, please reply as I have it working just fine on NeoGamma but would like it to work USB Loader GX cause I like the interface better.

Thanks for the info. I was on 3.2 before and used Dogeggs' softmod guide to get up to 4.1. The only difference I made was using the latest Neogamma as per the Mario [guide] on here. That's all I did and works fine for me.

Hi, I'm totally new to the HBC for Wii, can someone tell me if i have to leave the SD card in the Wii the whole time in order for me to run HBC or Neogammar? Thanks.
