Just wanted to say thanks for the step-by-step. I'm not really new to the scene, but for some reason couldn't get this game to work for the life of me. I had HBC and NeoGamma, but I think my outdated cios is what was holding me back. Either that or possibly not having the SMNE.dol (I have no idea what this does). Nevertheless, it works like a charm now without giving me the disc read error after a few minutes. Thanks!

I haven't fooled with my Wii in probably 9 months. I have the D2Pro chip. I think it is the latest. I bought it one year ago and it is the same chip on Canada Mods now.

I am running 3.2u. I already had HBC installed.

I don't even know if I need HBC. When I insert the disc the screen pops up on the game channel. Things look find and when you press start after about 2 seconds it gets a black screen that says an error has occurred and to consult the operations manual. It did this with two discs that I burned. (Separate brands.)

I'm not sure where the problem lies. Is it my version of firmware or maybe I need a new cIOS?

I installed the neogamma channel. It says i need cIOS revision 14 and I have 4 installed. It still runs though. I get a similar error message.

I don't want to do this USB loader stuff. I'd really like my disc to work. I hope that neogamma isn't necessary. I only fooled with it because I wanted to get this to work.

It seems most things talk about the newer firmware and I'd rather not update if I don't have to. So far everything works besides this mario game.

    Thanks for any ideas.

Stephen2- Before following this guide, I was in the same situation as you. I kept getting the disc read error. I even had the same cIOS version. I don't think it's your firmware, I think the problem is with the cIOS being outdated or the need for the custom "SMNE.dol" I'm now finally running off the disc through NeoGamma. Try following this guide step by step and you should be good. I tried tons of different methods, but this one is the only one I found to let me run it off the disc.

I really don't want to run it via neogamma. It appeared that the guide was for neogamma. Is this the only way to run the game?

As far as I know, the only way to run it is using programs like NeoGamma, uLoader, etc. I haven't heard of anyone successfully running it through the normal disc channel using a mod chip. Hopefully D2pro gets an update soon, because I prefer to just pop in the disc and not have to fool with any softmods myself. In the meantime, this will work I guess.
