Ca d2e ready d2pro with red light on d2c

So far; 'NO' good.
Clip didn't work out for me; just a solid red light. Desoldering the jumper & Soldering the j point didn't work for me either; just the red light. So I tossed the clip.
I got myself a weller temp controlled iron and busted out an old hard drive for practice. (this took some time ;-). )
The chip is now soldered in and all connection have been checked 'thrice' with the DMM. Definatly good continuity & no shorts. Now I Got a solid red light and the drive is inching. The drive is not spinning up anything and not ejecting backups or originals.(everything is fine when chip is powered off and c point is opened.)

The d2pro has a green d2E ready sticker on it and a white serial# sticker. WII is a d2C chipset with a # lu3377 serial purchased in feb 2008.
I did the 9 wire install with 30awg kynar wire and checked everything many times. I used x2 heavier awg for the supply lines.

Now Im thinking that the firmware is needing an update; but I am lacking the d2prog gizmo.
I read that some people still get some drive functionality with old firmware so I am unsure.
Can someone confirm that the firmware is my issue; or should I be looking elsewhere?

Thanks
wook

Ca

It's all good =) Got er all fingered out.
Picked up a d2prog
Flash to 2.3; red light blue light and no ominous drive noises.
Backups work fine.
Homebrew works fine too.
