Riivolution is an on-the-fly game patcher for use with retail discs. It allows users to place content on their SD or USB devices, which will be read by the game during regular play.
Riivolution can be used for custom textures, music, levels, memory patches, game translations, and more.
Mini-FAQ
Does Riivolution work with my "backups" or USB loaders?
No. And that's not a bug.
Does Riivolution work with my PAL/NTSC/JAP Wii/game?
Yes.
What IOS does it need installed?
Riivolution requires an updated IOS37; if you're on System Menu 4.2 you should be good.
If it's not installed or the proper version, it will be installed the first time Riivolution is run.
Alternatively, you can also use NUSD or DOP-IOS to install it - with all patches disabled.
Does Riivolution work with Game X?
I probably haven't played it, but yes, it should; try it. If it doesn't work, report it - some games known to reload IOS will require specific patches to work.
Games that have specifically been tested include Fatal Frame 4, Super Smash Bros. Brawl, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, Rock Band, among others.
What does the "Install" button do?
It will install a Riivolution channel onto your System Menu for easy access. This can always be uninstalled.
Can I use Ocarina / Gecko codes with it?
Normally, Riivolution just supports direct memory patches. However, Riivolution supports a patching method that ccan be used with the Gecko OS code handler.
Read more about that here
Can I add new files to a disc with Riivolution?
Not yet.
Uhh, how do I use this?
As a user, you need to either download patch packages made by someone else or make your own.
A basic template and packages for common games can be found here
For a more detailed explanation about Riivolution's patch XML files, check out the instructions
Can I see it in action?
Sure.

Mario Kart Wii Custom Tracks w/Riivolution
by MrBean35000vr
CURRENT VERSION: v2.0
FOR EXISTING CUSTOM TRACK PLAYERS
An update has been released to v2.0. I've updated the links now! v2.0 includes two new tracks and a couple of updates
and new features that some may find useful (see What's new.txt).
Quick update v1.8 to v2.0
(Mirror: 4shared.com - online file sharing and storage - download Update1.8to2.0.zip)
How you use this: If you have v1.8, all you need to do is download it, extract, and copy the contents to the root of your SD card,
saying Yes to any overwrite prompts. DON'T DELETE YOUR OLD 1.8 DATA! JUST OVERWRITE WHEN IT ASKS
FOR NEWCOMERS
If your Wii is Version 3.0 - 4.1 and has no HBC:
Download this: Custom Track Pack for v3.0 - v4.1
mirror: MKWRiivo1.zip
Then follow these instructions.
1. Extract/copy the contents of this ZIP archive onto the root of your SD card. (If your SD card has a folder called "private" already,
I recommend you rename it temporarily).
2. Insert your SD card and Mario Kart Wii, and go to Wii Settings --> Data Management --> Channels --> SD Card. This activates Bannerbomb.
3. At this point, a message should pop up saying "Load boot.dol/elf?" Say Yes.
4. You will be most likely taken to a black screen asking you to update IOS37, if this is your first time. Press A and let it update.
5. You will then see the Riivolution screen and a list of custom tracks.
6. Click Launch Game, and if it's all working, you should see an intro screen, and you're then good to go!
If you freeze at step 3 or 4, please check the Bannerbomb site.
If you freeze at stage 6 or after, please check your download isn't corrupted. If it's not, go to Page 2 on Riivolution and disable the
additional menu themes, and it should start working.

Using Riivolution with NSMBWii Tutorial
by FlameKoetsu on Sun Mar 21, 2010 7:17 pm
This is a guide for anyone who has or will have troubles using Riivolution. This will be a Tutorial explaining it to the most simplistic way.
2. Next after downloading it, place the riivolution folder in the apps folder in your SD card.
3. Then download the XML of New Super Mario Bros. Wii (
Patch Templates - Riivolution). Right click the Download link and save it.
Make another folder in the root of your SD card and name it riivolution. Place the NSMBWii XML into that folder. (Doesn't matter what
you name the XML file)
4. Now make another folder in the root of your SD card and name it nsmb. That is where you'll place put the levels you want replaced.
You'll have to name the ARC file according to the level you are replacing. Ex. 01-01.arc replaces W1-1. (To find out what the ARC name
of levels are, open up the level in Reggie! then the name will be at the top. [I'll soon make a list of the ARC files' corresponding
levels])
5. Run Riivolution w****ver way you will (HBC,Bannerbomb) Enable the NSMB Template patch and play!
Notes
- IOS37 is required to run Riivolution, the program will ask you if you want to install it (Its safe)
- The "Install" button on the app will make a Riivolution channel on the system menu which allows easy access

Stream Custom Levels Live over the Internet in NSBMWii
by Aaron on Tue Mar 23, 2010 9:30 am
For those who may not have noticed, Riivolution was updated last night. With it came
network support, and so the first public RiiFS server is now online.
This server is exclusively for use with Riivolution, and requires that your Wii has an active internet connection. You simply download
our XML and place it on your SD or USB drive; whenever you start Riivolution with NSMBWii in your Wii it will connect to the server
and allow you to try out the monthly selection of community levels. Updates are planned to happen monthly, and will require no action
from your part; besides restarting your Wii.
The levels will be streamed over the internet to your Wii as you play the game. Those with particularly slow internet connections may
notice load times of up to 10 seconds for a level; though it's normally not nearly that long.
Download XML - Place this in your normal /riivolution
folder on your SD or USB device.
More Information
March 2010
This first month has a feature of selected levels placed into Worlds 1 and 2, with World 1 primarily filled with levels designed by
BulletBillTime. Check out the wiki page for full details.
