Probably not seeing as your already on 4.2.
Works for me. Thanks a lot
Sooo, I decided to try the safe install from 4.0U to 4.2U. Everything seemed to be going fine, but I wasn't watching for a moment and when I looked up it was back at the Homebrew Channel.
Wii still says 4.0U, so I hit BootMii and did a NAND backup (I always get 1 verify error even after running ten backups, and my SD card (wii branded) has no bad blocks as far as BootMii is concerned. is that ok?)
Just to be silly I hit System Update and now am at 4.2U. Bad idea. Homebrew still worked correctly, but usb loader/usb loader gx/wiiflow fail with a black screen of doooom! I cried a little bit right here, and I'm 35.
Sure, I read that BootMii needed a gamecube controller to restore the NAND from SD but I didn't think it would REALLY need one. I was wrong. Cried some more. I have EVERY Wii game on HDD (Thank you Gamefly)...it was a very, very sad moment, and I was feeling really stupid.
Somehow I found We Hack Wii / USB Loader with a guide on getting things back to normal with 4.2. I downloaded the wehackwii files and skipped directly to step 6 (do not pass go, do not collect $200).
I don't have an SD card reader in the same room, so I saved a lot of time by using FTPii to get things situated. (and luckily, it still worked!)
After all of that, everything is back to normal except WiiFlow which says I need IOS249. Hopefully I can figure that one out again...
So, if you're just nuts, you can really still hack the wii with 4.2U. I have a second Wii still on 3.2 just in case things had gone bad.
FYI you don't need a game cube controller. The Wii power and reset buttons are next and enter in BootMii :P
Yeah, that works for getting through the menu, but when I tried to restore from SD it said you must hit A, B, X and Y to confirm... didn't work with any combo of power, reset and eject :P
I have used this guide to successfully update 2 wii's already and they work perfectly fine. Attempting it my third wii is causing some problems. Before I ran the update I made sure to make a back up with bootmii. I ran the update and everything went according to plan. All of the other mods are working properly but when I pop in Band Hero disc (as I have done with the other two wii's and it work perfectly) and it tells me I need to update the wii but I checked the system menu only to find that it is already updated. I have tried to restore the back up but for whatever reason that is not working. So, I read that other people have also updated their wii using the disc channel option and it worked fine for them. But I am skeptical, updating via nintendo just sounds like a dumb idea and only a few people have done this. Basically my question is Should I try updating via the disc channel? Why is my bootmii back up restore not working, Can I get the restore to work? I am at a loss and I don't know what to do. My other idea was to make my wii a virgin a start from scratch but even this seems problematic since I can not do this with v4.2. Any help would be great.
This is not a thread for help but since your problem is easy to fix just update your IOS as thats all the disc is wanting to do.
Vamu ver se Funfa!
Quer so ver!
im having my doubts about updating..is it really worth it? i do wana go on the shop channel but i dont wanna risk losing the HBC..iv been setting it up for quite some time now...i guess il just wait till a few more people say its working till i get it..but thanks anyway.
