'dvd identifier' retrieves and interprets the pre-recorded information that is present on dvd (dvd+r, dvd+r dl, dvd+rw, dvd+rw dl, dvd-r, dvd-r dl, dvd-rw, dvd-ram), hd dvd (hd dvd-r, hd dvd-rw, hd dvd-ram) and blu-ray (bd-r, bd-re).

This information will allow you to accurately identify your disc's real manufacturer.
The manufacturer database allows for translation of manufacturer IDs (e.g. 'mkm') into full blown manufacturer names (e.g. 'mitsubishi kagaku media').
The 'dvd identifier'-distribution listed above already includes the most recent manufacturer database.
The on-line version check of 'dvd identifier' automatically updates your manufacturer database. If the system on which 'dvd identifier' is installed has no internet connection, you can separately download the latest database down below and then manually transfer this file to that system.
