Nintendo gave this girl a free DS but warns the rest of us not to chance our luck and write our own letters.
When you're a kid, there's a lot of things you want but can't have due to lack of funding. Asking your parents to fix you up sometimes works, but most of us are familiar with being told to wait until Christmas or our birthday. So we'll sulk or mow lawns to pass the time or earn the money ourselves, but the majority of us likely never wrote to the manufacturer and asked for one for free. But what would happen if we did?

Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore: The iPadLock Minister?

    PDF | Print | E-mail Monday April 26, 2010
Since his appointment as Canadian Heritage minister in 2008, James Moore has carefully crafted an image as "Canada's iPod Minister." Young, bilingual, and tech-savvy, Moore has expressed regular support for the benefits of the Internet and is always ready with a quick "tweet" for his many followers. Yet as my op-ed in the Hill Times notes (HT version (sub required), homepage version), according to the scuttlebutt throughout the copyright community, Moore may be less iPod and more iPadlock. As the government readies its much-anticipated copyright package, Moore is said to be pressing for a virtual repeat of Bill C-61, the most anti-consumer copyright proposal in Canadian history.

    Check Disk for Pre-Repair Process
    April 24th, 2010 by bushing · 7 Comments

A faithful HackMii reader spent some time with AnyTitle Deleter and tried to clean everything odd off his Wii, and used the HackMii Installer to uninstall the HBC and BootMii/boot2. He then sent his Wii into Nintendo (of America) to try to get them to repair a noisy drive; the warranty had expired, and he just wanted to pay them to repair the drive.

After they received the Wii, they wrote him back and said that because he had unauthorized software installed (something they could not fix themselves — but more on this later), it would cost $200 for them to do any repair. He had them just send him back the Wii, and then reinstalled BootMii/boot2 and dumped the NAND and sent it to us to figure out what he had missed and anything else we could gain from the image.

Google may have been the primary target of a sharp attack by privacy commissioners from 10 nations on Tuesday, but later that same day, the company revealed a new tool that could effectively turn the tables on those and other governments.

Specifically, the company's new Government Requests tool is designed to reveal for all to see when government agencies around the world ask Google to provide them with user data or remove certain content.

A major setback for those that claim piracy is having an adverse affect on the US economy: the US Government Accountability Office, who was tasked with reviewing the efforts to find out what, if any, impact piracy has on the US economy, has concluded that all of these studies - all of them - are bogus. Better yet - the GAO even goes as far as to say that piracy may have a positive effect on the economy.
