First step towards hacking the WiiU

Lets just hope they soon get hacks running in WiiU mode.

Makes me wonder if you could get a USB Loader to work on it, I would never try it unless I could back it up first though, $350 is too much to risk.

I'm curious to see what info it will transfer in the wii to wiiu thing. Was getting ready to try it and got stumped because apparently there is a new wii update.

I cannot find anything online about a new update but it is trying to make me take one. It keeps failing because Nintendo servers must be busy. I will try to get it to accept the update just to see what the heck it is....I have boot2 8-)

It couldn't be the update from last week that added Shop Channel v21 and IOS62 could it? As far as I've read that is the latest Wii update.

Hell yeah! is that a first that a system was hacked the DAY of the release? The 3ds got hacked a few days after its release but not the first day! check out this vid.

This is purely speculation, but to me, this sounds like the "Wii Mode" is really a virtualized console on the Wii U. Especially so considering how Wii Mode operates. In the Wii, the virtual consoles all ran from the Wii System, with the Wii U, the Wii console does not. Since it has to boot, it screams virtualization to me. That would also be the easiest way to implement Wii Compatibility as quickly as they have done, without the possibility of hindering the Wii compatibility with future updates.

That all said, the Wii system should, in theory, be completely isolated from the Wii U system. My thoughts are that we *should* be able to fully hack the Wii Mode without impacting the Wii U, which would be really cool. We will have to see what the future in this development could bring, but I do know that it would be a significant leap forward if we could get our USB loaders working even in Wii Mode if not on the Wii U altogether.

Yes, ModMii have both the Shop Channel v21 and IOS62 WADs, and the Softmod ANY Wii guide has been updated with the Shop Channel v21.

Doubtful, I don't think GC discs will fit properly into the WiiU drive and Devolution required you do so for verification...though I suppose if you verify the games on a old Wii then try loading then off WiiU that MIGHT work (I emphasize "might") it's a long shot....
