You need an original gamecube or wii game in the drive. Some games will work discless, some won't.

What is the point then, if you need the game in the drive? Wouldn't it work with out modding if the GC game was in the drive?

You misunderstand, ANY original disc will work with any game. I use Super Paper Mario Wii to boot my gamecube games.

OOH. Yes I did misunderstand that haha. So for me to boot Super Smash Bros, all I need is some genuine GC game in the drive? (just making sure and thanks for the replies).

I think you still missed a bit:

(Warning: This will replace your currently existing mIOS and therefore you will not be able to play retailGamecube game. To play these again, you must install MIOS v10 which overwrites the DIOS MIOS wad.)
Thanks for the warning...God forbid something goes wrong, my kids would eat me up like jungle cannibals!!

For those that did not read this detail...tsk, tsk tsk, shame for not reading enough.
Perhaps you can expand on how to recover mIOS v10 to be able to play retail GC discs again.

Thanks for the guide!

Yay, I'm glad I could help! I was searching the net for a download of MIOS v10 but I couldn't find it. I could only find a custom MIOS used for playing GC disc backups. If anyone has any links, I would appreciate it.

But perhaps installing the custom MIOS will work just as well.

I tried to play a digital backup with a Wii disc inserted and it didn't work. When I put the GC disc instead it did work. But if it works for you I must be doing something wrong. Perhaps it doesn't work for all games.

I have been trying to do this for a few hours now and I still cannot get it to work it seems.

I have followed the instructions that are posted on the first page, but for some reason the USB loader does not want to see my USB. It only sees the SD and when i need to change paths there is only SD there.
And when i tried it a different way the GC game i was trying to launch would just freeze in the launchers logo.

At the bottom of the screen between "OK" and "Cancel" is "sd:\" click on that and it will change to "USB:\"

If that doesn't work maybe you have the wrong port set for the USB.

What is this "different way" you are talking about?

That is what is weird, where i am supposed to change it to "USB:\" there is not that option. It wont let me choose my USB (as seen in this picture: http://i.imgur.com/SFs4c.jpg), but it will let me boot Wii games off it (the USB) so i know it is still working.

The way I was trying to do it (to play GC game from USB loader GX, it freezes at this screen: http://i.imgur.com/Vjg1L.jpg) wasn't working so the "different way" (which i I had no idea even if it would work) was trying to play the GC game from the app "DIOS-MIOS booter" but that also freezes once i launch the GC game and the freeze is a similar screen to the USB loader freeze.

I have never seen that splash screen before http://i.imgur.com/Vjg1L.jpg. That does not look like the one for DIOS MIOS. It is possible that you are using the old version of USB Loader GX. They did not post the newest version on their website, but rather on a mediafire link. Info I got from loanstar744.

It is posted in the guide on the first page but here it is: USB Loader GX mod 02

Just copy and paste the boot.dol into the loader_gx folder in your apps. Let it overwrite the original one.

Also, thanks for taking pictures of it so I can see more clearly what was wrong.

Thank you for trying to hep me (a noob at this) out.
I did just download the USB Loader you linked and it still got frozen at the same screen. I do not believe i screwed up anywhere on the first 5 steps you posted on the first page.

I also believe i did the second set of steps up to 3 correctly, but I put the game that i got (Super smash bros melee (GALE01) into the games folder into my USB and it just wont find it on the wii. I tried with a 8GB Kingston and a 32GB Lexar, both did not work.

I do not really know what I am doing wrong haha, maybe i need a different game in the drive?
What I do is:
1. go into homebrew channel
2. select USB Loader (the one you gave me)
3. I try to make the main GC path the "USB:\" but it will not give me that option. So i put the game i want in the SD to try it
4. Select Super smash bros melee
5. freezes on previously posted screen

You can have either dm or dml....not both. If you installed dios mios 2.0 you can only do usb. Make sure the game folder is setup correctly:

Usb:/games/GALE01/game.iso

My USB is my problem then. Because I cannot make that directory when I USB loader. For some reason my USB's not being seen. (it is FAT32, 32Kb)

USB Loader GX doesn't see your games, but Booter does. That's weird...

Also, did you check the compatibility list to see if the game works when compressed or if it works at all?

All of the games I have tried so far hang up at either the Dios Mios boot screen or at a black screen immediately after. I have tried USB loader GX V3 and CFG USB v70r36 with the same results. All the games I have tried are listed as compatible (Mario Party 4, Double Dash, Toadstool Tour, Timesplitters 2) and were ripped using the recommended settings from this thread. Any thoughts?

On the bright side, the newest version 2.0 release of DM on the Google Code page fixes booting from the disc, so I can play the hard copies until my issues are resolved.

Yes I did check the compatibility list, Super Smash Bros Melee checks in good.

Also I have a HDD (with a lot of wii game on it) plugged into port 0 and my USB (that i followed all the instructions with the gamecube game on it) in port 1 (the reason i can't put my USB into port 0 is because then USB Loader GX will not launch because it will be stuck at initializing USB device) and USB Loader GX allows me to launch one of those wii games, but for some reason will not allow me to make the Main GameCube path to the USB.
Sorry if I am not explaining this properly and I would like to thank you guys for helping me out .

EDIT1: I'll make a video just showing you the process I go through

Hello all,

Ok, so here's my dilemma...

I have a Wii with 4.1U. Priiloader 0.7, all updated cIOSes and d2x.

I also have a SunDrive installed with 100GB drive with an original gamecube image selected.

I have a WD 2TB with a primary active fat32 partition formatted with 32k, and a second NTFS partiition

USB Loader GX 3.0 latest rev installed

DML r59 installed.

EVERYTHING works. Wii games work. GC games from the SD card. USB Loader GX copies games from the FAT32 partition and they run fine. Even running the gamecube game from the Sundrive works.

If I install any other version of DML or DM 2.0 I get the splash screen and it hangs.

I used the DIOS-MIOS Booter to test other versions of DML and DM and the same thing... hangs at the splash screen.

So I know the hard drive is good, the game isos are good... anyone have an idea? I'd really like to run GC games off of the USB drive.

I just Modded my Wii with the "Softmod any Wii"
and would like to do the Mios Dios V2 and I have a couple of questions:

- is it safe to do after this mod?
and

- is there a detailed guide on Mios Dios V2?

Thanks in advance
