I am in the same boat,

I have now tried two Wii's, both I have hard modded with the original Wiikey modchip version 1.99 firmware, wondering if this has ANYTHING to do with it. Do you have hardmod, or softmod?

I was wondering at first if me having dsmios lite installed first may have caused the black screens for me, but I then tried my other Wii and it hasn't had any new IOS's installed in sometime, I had to install all the DX2 v8 wads (with wadman) and dios mios 2.0 v4 and all I get with dml booter is black screen on it and on my SD cards. I find it hard to believe it is how I have my drive setup as I get the same results with SD card (dml booter lets you select sd or usb.)

Can we at least try to validate if people with hard chipped Wii's are getting this to work??? If so, what chip and version bios on that chip? This sounds like the only possible for me right now as I have completely cleaned a Wii to version 4.0u, installed only ios58, 249, d2x v8 and dios mios 2.0 and still no luck, same black screen.

      ----update on 07/08/2012
All seems to be working now, turns out it was my USB controller for the HDD. I tried two of them without success and the one I rx'd earlier today is running fine..

Okay. Now I feel your guys' pain. Only 3 games have worked for me so far. Other games I simply get a black screen. It's possibly a bad rip of the disc, who knows?

So, since only 'some' games give black screens that 'should' work (according to the compatibility list) give me black screens, what's the problem since some of them DO in fact work!

I can confirm chipped Wii works with DM2.0
Mine's chipped with the original Wiikey and updated with the latest software i got from their site.
I installed the latest CFG with DM. Had some struggle getting it to work simply it didn't like my drive's USB2IDE interface card. So i tried all other cards I have and found one that works.
Are you using any usb loader app?

I noticed that some games that work on CFG Loader don't work on WiiFlow even though others work on WiiFlow. Games only sometimes give black screens. Any idea why?

I was waiting for DIOS-MIOS to be USB enabled for quite some time and eventually gave up looking around to see if there was any progress, recently, June 25th I looked it up again for the heck of it and sure enough I found DIOS-MIOS 2.0, gave it a shot, used the Beta version of USB Loader GX r1191 or something like that and started ripping my most played GC games to my HDD through USB Loader and when they finished ripping, I played Pikmin and it black screens after selecting new game from the title screen, so I tried Pikmin 2 and it worked fine until you get to the part when you first see the D Size Duracell battery as Louie and it switches to the cutscene and goes black, then a blue screen says there was an error and to refer to the instruction booklet, I haven't tried any of my other ripped games, but so far they don't seem to be working very well for me and Super Mario Sunshine plays for a while until it says an error occurred just like Pikmin 2 except it's a black screen with yellow text. These rips are also clean rips, I haven't used any kind of scrubber or DiscEX kinds of applications on them.

I've tried four different flash drives and my 320GB Western Digital Caviar Blue Passport in which I have a 2nd slave partition for my most played ripped Wii Games and it plays them flawlessly, the primary partition is 32KB Clusters and formatted to FAT32, as were all my other flash drives.

Might I also add when you load a Gamecube disc and play it through any loader, even the Wii menu, DIOS MIOS takes over and freezes. On some games that are loaded through the Wii Menu they just go black, but when loaded through lets say Gecko OS it shows MIOS DIOS then freezes on the screen.

Any ideas? Should I try a different USB loader? Will the game disc thing be fixed any time soon? I heard a lot of people have that problem, if not all who use MIOS DIOS.
I also see that a lot of people are saying the same thing about most games going black screened but not Gamecube error screens.

I've never gotten that error you're talking about. But I do have Super Mario Sunshine and Pikmin 2, so I'll try that out.

The reason why loading the actual Gamecube disc doesn't work is because you need to have the Wii's mIOS to play them (or otherwise).

This is what I'm lead to believe, however, I've experienced the opposite. In DIOS MIOS Booter when I try to play a game that normally doesn't work with other Loaders, it plays the game that I have in the disc drive instead.

Are you sure you have MIOS DIOS v2 installed correctly?
Yes, I'm aware that MIOS DIOS overwrites the Gamecube mIOS, I just didn't know it made disc games unplayable. Luckily I have my GC on backup, but it would be nice to have this fixed, not to mention none of my games working correctly.

I believe the pikmin games are a problem. The error you're describing could be the hdd going into sleep mode and dios mios not being able to find it to access it.

Hello all first post on this site for Me.

Firstly I have had a few games give black screens, they have all had the setting force NTSC enabled and worked fine in PAL mode, Though I could not play them that way as I can not find my tv remote to change the standard from NTSC to PAL. Anyway, I got NTSC versions of the games and they all worked. I am using a Freeagant Go 500GB white first series drive with the internal power management turned off on the drive and 32kb clusters. I have never had to put a game in the drive to get anything to work. I am using a 4.2U white wii that came as a 4.0U.
I load the games through cfg usbloader. I rip my discs to the drive that I do not already have stored on my comp with usbloaderGX. I "format" the games on my comp for use by reading the first 54 bytes of the iso, or gcm and having a script I wrote place the file in a folder named as follows "NAMEOFGAMEFROMDISC [IDCODE]" and then renames the file game.iso and put it in the folder, it works greats. If anybody wants it, it is for linux and I will share my code. I also found a way to have multiple disc games all installed in the same game folder. You must change the first six bytes of the iso or gcm to a different product code for each disc. This works for resident evil 1, and a couple other games I have tried. I have also written a simple Linux script for that. I would also be happy to share my code there. The only real problem I have had besided NMM being disabled on many builds of DIOS MIOS, is that when I browse my games on cfg usbloader It keeps playing the same GC load sound over and over. I wish I could change it (I do not know how yet), I have already made 2D box art, full box art, and disc images for a bunch of GC games for cfg usbloader /usbloaderGX, I am not sure where to upload them to. well thanks for the cool forum and if any body knows how I can contribute let Me know. Have a great one

Yes because I've played USB backups using it. Three different games with NMM working for one of them. But playing from the disc drive accidentally is quite amazing. But in DIOS MIOS Booter, you have the option to play the game in the disc drive anyways! I haven't tried that yet.

On another note, has anyone gotten cheats to work? Games just cause my wii to reset when I try to enable them, even though they work in Dolphin.

      Hello,
I followed the instructions given by cwjakesteel, I am running cfg version 70r25 and whenever I try to load a gamecube game off of my usb (yes it is fat 32) get to the "Dios Mios" splash screen and nothing happens after that.

Would anyone know what would cause this?

Note: I looked in the "system" tab of settings in cfg and found nothing relating to wad, so, obviously i did not change it to "DM". Also when i installed the Dios Mios wad there was no channel created (not sure if that is normal).

Thank you all in advance for any help I may receive.

Hey sulxen, I recently condensed the guide from nearly a page long to just those view points, so I took out a lot of explaining. You are not suppose to have a channel installed.

In System, where it says "DML version" change it to DM from whatever it was before. I just checked.

I can't get USB Loader GX to detect my GC games, even though CFG and Wiiflow detect them, and I have the box ticked for GC games. Anyone know how?

Hello cwjakesteel, firstly, thank you for your quick response i appreciate it (i apologize for my own response time, i was out for a bit) , secondly, may i ask what version of CFG you are running? Because i still cant seem to find the "DML version" (please excuse me if i am being absent minded, and i am overlooking it).

Once again, thank you in advance for your response.

I was thinking this same thing, because it seems as soon as that cutscence starts the drive reads for a few more seconds then stops, but I also get the same thing in Super Marios Sunshine.

I thought maybe it's possible someone might have installed it using the wrong IOS.
I don't have the DIOS MIOS Booter, nor have I heard much about it, any good?
I have not tried cheats, my guess is that it fails to carry the cheats over and just crashes.

Under the HDD options in USB Loader GX, did you set the correct game path? Did you also set the correct partition? Do you have the newest build mentioned a few pages back?

I only use one partition. My Wii and GC games are on both. I didn't do anything to change the game path, I'll check that out. Yea I downloaded the newest version from their website.

No problem. I use the latest version of CFG Loader. It is likely that you are using an old version. In the old versions you won't even see the gamecube games appear, but you DO see them. I'm using rev 70. Go to updates in CFG and download the latest version. In the description it will tell you that it can play gamecube games (unless it has updated again). The path to "DML version" goes like this "Settings>System>DML Version" which is at the bottom of the list.

Thank you again cwjakesteel i finally got the thing working (it was the cfg version, only supported dios mios light and not dios mios)

On another note, anyone know the button combo to exit to the wii menu?

For all who are wondering what the button combo to reset the wii while playing a Gamecube game off of usb is.

On the Gamecube controller press and hold the L,R,Z, & "START" buttons simultaneously.

      Hope this helped .

The BETA build they have that supports DM USB wasn't put onto their site, they compiled it and uploaded to mediafire and had posted it on GBATemp. Beta r1193 Mod02: USBLoaderGX_r1193_mod02.zip

Thanks. I'll add that to the guide. But I think there are two button combinations that do two different things.

Do you need the Genuine game for this to work? I saw in I believe it was the second post in his/her instructions they said to put in the genuine disc.
I am new here and this is my first time trying these things so please try not to get furious at me.
