I have a soft modded wii. I've updated all ios through sys check. Using usbloader gx with r1207. I do believe I've got all my settings properly configured. Hard drive is 3TB SEAGATE goflex desk with @ pARTItions. First is 1000 gb, FAT32, 32kb cluster size. Verified all that is true. Through reading and google searches I've found that my hard drive is most likely the problem, as I've ruled out all other issues as far as I'm concerned. Just wondering if anyone else had this issue with a solution.
To reiterate, when I click start to run the game, it goes to a black screen and freezes. No splash screen. Thank you for any help.

You updated your IOSs with sysCheck? How? I'm pretty sure that app only scans the IOSs, not updates them...

Just a little note to everyone, GX r1208s changelog states that it will inform the user if their USB device is not properly formatted for GC game play

I haven't tried out 1208 (have 1205,1207 & 1208 on my comp) will test it out tonight, update my Devolution guide accordingly, and post my thoughts on the new revision here and in my Devo guide.

Lol, yes. It will save a lot of time for everyone. I'm hoping this feature works with Devolution too as Devo has the same HDD formatting requirements as DM does.

here i am again. after my difficult ordeal loading GC games via wii, another problem arised. how do you play 2 disc gc games using usb loader gx?
i ripped the games then used DiscEx to make it playable on wii. here's how my files looks like. (i did a search about to 2 disc games and everyone has different solutions and it is confusing)

      Game Used: "Resident Evil"

      Computer -> Drive Name (F -> games
      * Under games i have two folders (GBIE08 and GBIE082) inside of each folder is a folder named "sys" and "game" iso
i was able to get to the character selection screen and then after that it asks me to open my disc tray and insert either disc 1 or disc 2.

      lend me a hand? =)

*found my answer. not possible on older DM's

Sounds like you put disc 1 and disc 2 in separate folders. Both ISOs should be in the same folder

a quick question guys, most of you were able to make it work using GX loader 1205 and DM 2.6. does DM still require you to insert the retail disc to be able to play gc games?

EDIT: "Sounds like you put disc 1 and disc 2 in separate folders. Both ISOs should be in the same folder" - i tried putting it in the same folder and i'm not sure how to rename it. some say you should rename it "gam1.iso" but that doesn't work for me. still detecting disc 2.

@cwjakesteel yes i did read the guide. i might have confused some info with "another" guide as the one here did not work for me.

i will revisit the guide posted here, thanks for your help guys.

That was never a requirement for DM, Devolution requires that (the disc is only needed for a 1 time verification). DM did once require a disc to play games but it did not have to be a retail disc.

fated07...did you even read the guide?

The guide explicitly tells you how to use 2 disc games. And for some reason some people can only play the game with a disc in, and others, like me don't need the disc.

I ripped a game to my usb hhd (formatted correctly) into /games. I set the usb loader gx settings as shown on page 1 of this thread. When I try to boot the game it gives this message: "Do you want to copy the game to SD or delete a game on SD?" Is this a known noob hurdle?

Your using the wrong version of USB loader GX, look for r1208

      USB1/games/GAMEID/game.iso
Is the GC game same region as system ? Because not all out of region GC games work with GX yet.
Try GX: r1208 ,also remove your old .cfg files from GX, because they could cause issues when you update GX.
      GX: R1208_IOS222-249-250.7z
Install USB Loader GX -UNEO_Forwarder Channel 5_1_AHBPROT.wad for USB Loader GX channel, because older GX channels could causes issues. Also try different GC games to see if DM 2.6 is working.
      FAQ and GameIssues
For wii games [Guide] Fat32 you do not need a wbfs partition, wii games works perfect with FAT32.
      wbfs2fat.py - WBFS to FAT32 conversion
The link to gx r1208 takes me to a page with the source but no option to download. The download section doesn't appear to contain r1208. Confused.

EDIT: I took a guess and just replaced the 249 boot.dol for r1208. I also erased the config folder because I've read elsewhere that it can cause conflict. Now, when I load the usb loader gx from hbc it still says r1180, however I no longer get the message I reported above and get a black screen instead.

What HDD program did you use to format your USB HDD ? Because wbfs2fat converts and EASEUS format it to FAT32 with 64KB cluster size.
Verify that your HDD is using 32KB cluster size or less, use Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced : right click your disk/change cluster size/current cluster size: I use Acronis Disk Director 11 Advanced on three HDD to change it from 64KB to 32KB and I did not lose any data. (I ONLY RECOMMEND ACRONIS BECAUSE NO DATA LOSS)If you use any other HDD program you will have to backup everything before you change the cluster size.
There is also another method in the guide to see if your USB has 32KB cluster size.
      FAQ
I just get a black screen (no DIOS MIOS splash screen)

Chances are high that your USB2IDE device isn't supported.

      • Assure that your HDD is formatted with FAT32, no other FS is supported.
      • Only cluster sizes 32KB or less are supported.
      • The FAT32 partition MUST be the first primaly partition on the HDD, otherwise it will not work.
      • If all the above are ok try another USB2IDE device or wait for an update.

If you have a FAT32 thumb drive, you could try it and if it works, we will know the issue is with the USB HDD.
