The new wiimc version is freezing up on me when I try to access the second SMB share network
No code dump,, just blackscreen, wii remote power button stops working and you have to manually get up and turn it off.
      First smb network working fine

I went ahead and reverted back to the old version

Is there any way to stop being prompted to update?
Version 1.28 is glitchy and I won't be installing it.

I have yet to be offered the 1.28 update lol. This is the first I'm hearing of it. How buggy is it?

I only had that one problem, so I can't say how glitchy it is.
I tried deleteing and re-making the second smb network but it was still crashing

My second smb network is a bit strange however. and is on a hard drive plugged directly into my router instead of on a windows PC. So perhaps that has something to do with it, but it was working fine with the last version.

I've got a used wii today with serial number of 2006 production and system menu 3.4. Can wii media centre play x.264 files or other compressed from DVD? If no will ever be possible? I have not softmoded it yet but sorry I'm a litte impatiend I want to know....

Or also can it read from external DVD drive?

Wii hardware cant do mkvs. I wouldnt hold your breath.

Extrnal dvd drives were at one time being considered, I'm not sure where it ended up but........ not really cost effective. Depending on your drive (look at the newbies post in my sig) you might be able to play dvds off the wii drive. All wiis say 2006, has nothing to do w/ production date.

I've already checked serial number and I have GC2-D2C (v1)
with 100% change. I know about this hardware but doesn't WiiMC be able to read x264 up to 480p videos from DVD source ?

Ok... From external DVD drive? Can it read x264 or only normal DVD's?

Has anyone had any luck setting up SMB shares on a linux based Samba server? I've got a Pogoplug with optware running samba2 and Wiimc just won't connect to it. I've found some info on the WiiMC user forums about enabling ntmlv1 authentication and encrypted passwords, which I've tried to do, but I'm just not sure I'm doing it correctly since they don't provide instruction and I'm no smb expert. I'm thinking it could have something to do with users I've setup on the SMB server, but again, that's a fuzzy subject to me. Anyway, thought I'd check here too just in case.

      Hi,

Other than my introduction this is my first post. I hope I'm in the right place. I'm more than a little intimidated by the amount of information and I did search and try and find some answers before I posted.
I got through the soft mod fine, got through the installation of the wiimc and even the channel add-on only to get down to the moment my family had all been waiting for... the ability to play DVDs on our wii... And it's recognizing the movies as data discs - attempting to "play" them and then giving us an error msg. I was crestfallen. This was the main goal of the mod - any direction anyone could offer would be appreciated.

      Thank you,
      Lara

I checked that before I posted, it is enabled. For some reason it's recognizing it as "data" and ultimately says it is unsupported.

      How old is your Wii?

It's from 2006 and did a little more digging and found out that my chipset has a 75% chance of being a GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip and a 25% chance of being a GC2-D3 with no drive chip.

LOL, all Wiis say 2006. That's a later revision and likely can't play DVDs.

My apologies for misunderstanding what copyright year meant. Afterall I've been at this all of about 6 hours now. Is that your speciality - trolling for newbies and making fun of them? And if they "all" say 2006 why does Wii Drive Chip Database show options between 2006 and 2012? Nevermind - I've heard about all from you I care to.

Not wise to show aggression to those who're taking time to help you when they don't have to, granted he could have worded it nicer he still did provide you with an answer. You should show a little gratitude for that.

Anywho, back on topic. Did you get the Wii new or used? If it was used it may have a newer drive due to replacement of the old one which would create confusion when checking the serial number on the drive database.

A good way to check your drives data (thus letting us see how old or new it is) is to run a sysCheck, that will show the drive date
