• Nintendo Originally Flirted With 3D, HD Displays For Wii U Controller

Online gaming publication Kotaku has uncovered a patent filing from Nintendo which shows that the company was originally flirting with the idea of a 3D HD touch screen for Wii U. Nintendo’s patent filing states that the Wii U controller “might” feature a 3D display and an HD display. We already know that we won’t see the final controller until E3, so Nintendo may have some surprises in store for us.

To be honest, I'm not a big fan of 3D.

I guess the TVs are alright, but handheld consoles?

People who play on consoles like the 3DS for large amounts of time will probably end up with a very bad eyesight...

I have a 3ds and I find that 80% of the time I am playing in 2D mode. If wiiU is really going to make the controller have a 3D screen I think I might stay away from it as well...

You would be able to switch to and from 3D mode whenever you liked.
I doubt Nintendo would make the controller 3D only.

3d is just another gimmick like hd, however 3d is just retarded imo, i dont want to see objects coming out of the screen at me. its just a trend, a trend that will lose its appeal in a few years time. Or maybe even sooner when it becomes a health risk to peoples eyesight.

i agree that the stuff coming out of the screen is a gimmick, but 3d does add depth to everything else so its a matter of how its used. Kind of like motion controls, a lot of games made use of motion in a very gimmicky way but others did it right. That said I have a 3d tv and rarely watch anything in 3d.
I really don't get how hd could possibly be seen as a gimmick though.

      I agree...
I do the same thing and only got it for the cool games.
      :P

Please excuse my correct spelling, grammar, or other very smart things.

From my very short and narrow experience with a 3d tv and a game boy 3ds: How 3d is currently implemented seems more like 2d objects with different depth than other objects, rather than everything seen being 3d like real life. Just my experience. For 3d to be enjoyable, it can't look cheesey.

Oh no... Not another Health hazard.
Last time I used a 3ds, after about 2 minutes I could barely stand up. I am not even diagnosed with seizures(yet)
If It had 3d, it would be very expensive too...😓
