    WiiMC 1.2.2 changelog

    -------------------------------------------------------

    WiiMC and the Channel Installer
WiiMC runs from IOS58 and HBC 1.0.8 (recommended), if HBC is not using IOS58 to run then you will have problems. If you have HBC 1.0.7 then update it. The channel installer will install a forwarder to your Wii menu, this is not a full channel, you will still need WiiMC in the apps folder of your Wii SD card. You do not need to update the channel if a previous version already works. The WiiMC channel gets updated to improve compatibility with USB devices, so if your USB device is compatible then no reason to update.

    IOS58
IOS58 Installer (if you need it)
Use the IOS58 installer to install IOS58 if you do not have it installed all ready. You will then need to reinstall the Homebrew channel. If the IOS58 installer does not work for you then use DOP-Mii to install it (with no patches) or use NUSD to download it, you will be looking to install IOS58 v6176. You can also look HERE to download the wad.

    USB LAN Adapter
USB LAN Adapter is supported and will work well with IOS58, since IOS58 will access USB 2.0 speeds on both USB ports. You can have a USB HDD plugged into USB port 0, and a USB LAN Adapter plugged into USB port 1.

    DVD support
If your Wii is not capable of reading burned DVD's or retail movie DVD's, you can remove the DVD icon from the WiiMC tool bar. Go in to the settings and select DVD, now you can disable DVD support, which will remove the DVD icon from the WiiMC main menu.

Any wads found in this post (or thread) are to be at your risk, make sure you have proper brick recovery in place before installing wads.

Visit my poll here - what media player do you use

    --------------------------------

Make sure to select the icon in the upper left corner that corresponds to the type of file you want to play. Example - if you want to play a movie then select the movie icon. WiiMC will only recognize the file formats associated with which icon you have selected. Selecting the movie icon will only recognize movie files, etc....

ok, I've been playing around with this. I have tested with my SD card, you are free to experiment with a USB device, if that's what you use.

    1. First I created a folder on the root of my SD card called "media". In that folder I created subfolders called pictures, video, music. Do this first, make sure to put something in the folder you will be using, and add the media folder to the root of your SD card.
    2. Next I went into settings, and there you can select one of those forms of media. I will use video as an example.
    3. In settings select video, then select video folder. Now type sd1:/media/video, select ok.
    4. Now select the video icon at the top left of the screen and you should see what you put in the video folder on the SD card.
    5. Do this with the other folders too, music, pictures.

    Display Name ____ Movies

    everything is case sensitive.
i did not turn any passwords off, i just use my logon name and password and that works fine.
I also did not have the shared folder anywhere special it's on an external hdd eg //g/Movies
It seems to like the main folder shared not just the whole hdd. It will find the subfolders.
    Hope this helps.

I tried to install WiiMC v1.2.7. After loading WiiMC from HBC, I encountered an error message "Error saving file!". When I clicked Retry, "Error creating file!". Lastly, when I cancelled the operation, it says "Could not save settings to sd1:/apps/wiimc/setings.xml". I tried the old version of WiiMC too and still didn't worked. I also tried another SD card, still no luck. Any ideas why it didn't worked? Is it compatibility issues?

The new wiimc version is freezing up on me when I try to access the second SMB share network
No code dump,, just blackscreen, wii remote power button stops working and you have to manually get up and turn it off.
      First smb network working fine

I went ahead and reverted back to the old version

Is there any way to stop being prompted to update?
Version 1.28 is glitchy and I won't be installing it.

I have yet to be offered the 1.28 update lol. This is the first I'm hearing of it. How buggy is it?
    1. young@heart's Avatar

I only had that one problem, so I can't say how glitchy it is.
I tried deleteing and re-making the second smb network but it was still crashing

My second smb network is a bit strange however. and is on a hard drive plugged directly into my router instead of on a windows PC. So perhaps that has something to do with it, but it was working fine with the last version.

I've got a used wii today with serial number of 2006 production and system menu 3.4. Can wii media centre play x.264 files or other compressed from DVD? If no will ever be possible? I have not softmoded it yet but sorry I'm a litte impatiend I want to know....

Or also can it read from external DVD drive?

Wii hardware cant do mkvs. I wouldnt hold your breath.

Extrnal dvd drives were at one time being considered, I'm not sure where it ended up but........ not really cost effective. Depending on your drive (look at the newbies post in my sig) you might be able to play dvds off the wii drive. All wiis say 2006, has nothing to do w/ production date.

I've already checked serial number and I have GC2-D2C (v1)
with 100% change. I know about this hardware but doesn't WiiMC be able to read x264 up to 480p videos from DVD source ?

Has anyone had any luck setting up SMB shares on a linux based Samba server? I've got a Pogoplug with optware running samba2 and Wiimc just won't connect to it. I've found some info on the WiiMC user forums about enabling ntmlv1 authentication and encrypted passwords, which I've tried to do, but I'm just not sure I'm doing it correctly since they don't provide instruction and I'm no smb expert. I'm thinking it could have something to do with users I've setup on the SMB server, but again, that's a fuzzy subject to me. Anyway, thought I'd check here too just in case.

      Hi,

Other than my introduction this is my first post. I hope I'm in the right place. I'm more than a little intimidated by the amount of information and I did search and try and find some answers before I posted.
I got through the soft mod fine, got through the installation of the wiimc and even the channel add-on only to get down to the moment my family had all been waiting for... the ability to play DVDs on our wii... And it's recognizing the movies as data discs - attempting to "play" them and then giving us an error msg. I was crestfallen. This was the main goal of the mod - any direction anyone could offer would be appreciated.

      Thank you,
      Lara

I checked that before I posted, it is enabled. For some reason it's recognizing it as "data" and ultimately says it is unsupported.

It's from 2006 and did a little more digging and found out that my chipset has a 75% chance of being a GC2-D3-2 (v2) with no drive chip and a 25% chance of being a GC2-D3 with no drive chip.
