• Nintendo Announces New Wii Bundle

Includes game and soundtrack CD, but axes backwards compatibility.

    October 11, 2011

    Nintendo
has announced a new holiday Wii bundle for release in the US.

The bundle will include a black Wii system, Nunchuk and Wii Remote Plus along with a copy of New Super Mario Bros. Wii. In addition, a special Super Mario Galaxy soundtrack CD will be included, "which includes a selection of memorable music from the acclaimed video game."

The CD will only be available in the bundle and will not be sold separately. Based on the cover image, this appears to be the same CD released to Japan's Club Nintendo back in 2008.

Nintendo added that the system included in the bundle is "newly reconfigured" and "sits horizontally rather than vertically." The system will not offer backwards compatibility for GameCube games or accessories, and appears to be similar to the model announced in Europe during Gamescom.

The bundle will be available for $149.99. The Wii's current bundle, which includes Mario Kart Wii and a Wii Wheel, will also continue to be available at the same price.

The new bundle hits stores on October 23rd.

Food for thought: What will this mean to Bootmii, which runs in GC mode?

That actually looks like a fun thing to tear into. I wonder if they just removed GCN ports from the mobo and deleted mios, and maybe a model specific SM. If this is the case, it'd be fun to solder in some ports and reinstall the Mios and BC. Heck, revert it and case swap it. It would be pointless nonetheless.

EDIT: Heck, maybe I'll buy one of these just to tear into it and see what it is. Then I'll return it when I've found out. LOL. -- The Wii U seems really fun to hack.

Please don't double post, there's an EDIT button there for a reason.
And how did you manage to own a Wii U when it hasn't been released yet?
And hack it?? Am I miss interpreting this?

Oh this is the double post you were referring to. Sorry, it's a habit I've developed after moderating several forums that allow this.

Yes. I said it seems fun to hack, as in it's promised features give me the impression that it's going to be fun system to hack when it's released.

I do wish I owned one, though. This reminds me of a dream I had. I had a dream once that I obtained the Prototype Nintendo Revolution. It was weird because I already owned a Wii at the time.

Speaking of lost promises, Nintendo sure did seem to take their time releases all of these various colors of consoles. That and the lack of the ports that Nintendo claimed were going to be on the Revolution controller.

I apologize if this has been discussed, but I was wondering if the USB controllers I found on amazon would work for emulators on the Wii.
