4.0U Upgrade to 4.3U Failure - Preloader 0.29 Works

I have not been up to date on my Wii Modding for the past year and yesterday I tried a 4.3 upgrade. I first upgraded bootmii to 0.8 as boot2 and IOS, then tried to update to 4.3 through the system menu. The process died halfway through, when it said I should reboot. System booted into Preloader 0.29 on reboot and system menu is missing. I attempted to reload system menu 3.2 with any region changer but it goes to a blurry dump screen. I have a full virgin NAND saved via bootmii but I can't get intp it to restore. Any tips?

So I was able to upgrade to priiloader 0.7 and from there reinstall bootmii as boot2. I then restored my virgin NAND and was good to go. I then used bannerbomb to install HBC and bootmi as both boot2 and IOS and then tried to system update to 4.3. The same thing happened, update fails and the reason it gives is "internet connection error" rebooted and then loads priiloader as bootmii has been removed.

I'm going to NAND restore again but what am I doing wrong?

Why are you trying to update to 4.3? It does nothing for you! You will kill your softmod by updating to it. My advice would be to follow the Softmod Any Wii guide. It will give you all you need!

You shouldn't be trying to take an update from Nintendo. To update your softmod, follow the Softmod any Wii guide. Link is in the spoiler below. But you would know this if you left an introduction post.:rolleyes:

I am an older member but with a new name but never-the-less I should have.

I ended up being able to install System Menu 4.3 with dop-mii, and patched the IOS to boot again.

Would you suggest I stay at 4.0 and install IOS manually as needed per game? I can easily go back with my "virgin" NAND.

Problem is I was going by the surface level announcement on wiibrew wiki main page that said to update hackmii and then official 4.3 update.

We would suggest doing what playerkp420 said to do, follow the ANY Wii guide. It will update everything to the latest versions. Priiloader is doing its job and not letting you update thru N.

Thank you guys. Following Mauifrog's epic guide now. Thing are quite a bit more streamlined and easier than from 2009.
