Question pretty sure bricked and unrepairable HELP!!

ok guys this is a long one, and its completely mad lol

1st off this is not my wii, its my mates, he asked me to see if i can do anything with it... i've moded mine own wii and a few others for friends and family, i'm not expert at all but seem to have done it ok for morre then a few so said i'll see, but it's way over my head...

    1stly,
originally he had a white JAP wii that had a wiikey, but he lost the power cable on a house move, so was useless.
so he brought a Black pal wii without realising about the chips that stop back up loading on them, (he has kids so used back ups of his originals)
so stupidly he thought he'd open the jap wii and black wii up and swap the disc drives over, so black wii had the white jap wii's disc drive...
but it didnt work (go figure why that didnt work lol) dont now if he touched the nand or not.
so now he had a black wii with jap disc drive in that didnt work at all....
so he went on youtube (i know) FAIL.... BIG time,
basically he wanted to try usb loading as the disc drive did work....

the TUT he followed got him to install DRARK CORP, at the time he was like BLAH...BLAH as he didnt understand what it was really,
when i looked at his sd card i was like WTF, loads of stuff all over the place, wads, base ios's, apps, configs, you name it, it was on there,
    even had sneek... on it.
he had priiloader installed, but it was infected...??? ciosspaghetti cios infected IOS detected, aborted mission....
wouldn't load from pressing reset at all, caused DSI error, had to get in and load via cboot mmm, disabled all the hacks, then removed it completely

    so to whats happening now.....
the wii is on 4.2e, the disc drive is NOT working at all, there is NO blue light, no click as it starts up, nothing, but it still loads system menu,
and everything else, wiiMC, snes9x, and usb loader GUI......sort of keep getting same error every time i try and play ANY game from the hdd,
i know its not the hdd as my wii is modded and plays them fine 100%,
usb-loader loads up fine, finds hdd, loads box art, select a game, say mario kart,
normally i select ios 249, anti 002 fix on, ios reload block on auto, and bang game loads on my wii, BUT not on his at all.....

here is what i did and the problems

i've managed to remove all the DARK crap, followed the guide on here.

i always have used mauifrog's soft mod any wii, but the older guide not the newer with system menu x,
have a back up of the files, just in case i ever needed to mod another wii

after i removed all the dark corp and priiloader, i did a complete system format, all seemed to be ok,

used banner bomb to get bootmi on, only as ios tho....
then installed HBC, with the 2 ios's needed.

then i went back to the chapter 2 files form guide installed all 42wads, (cant give link as its been removed as updated)
then loaded up mmm and reinstalled priiloader v0.7, and enabled the hacks, region free, block online and disc,
    everything was going perfectly fine,
then loaded all the d2x7 cios, from wad manager,
then i loaded files form chapter 3 on to sd card, usbloader and few other apps, only emulators, nothing else.
then tried again to load from usb hdd and got same
    issue....

    using usb-loader
    v70b2
    249
    222-mload

    you get,
    loading game....
    iso 249
    ios reload blocked..........
the hdd flashes as if its going to start, then black screen, and nothing, after about 5mins get "An error has occured press the eject button remove the game disc and turn the power off."
apparently this has happened ever since he did the swaping of the drives and installing dark corp.....

guessing its the anti 002 error as on systemcheck it says it cant find drive at all? ?? been told the wii does a disc diagnostic check at start up..??

any chance this can be fixed via soft mod?? or is it FUBAR???

please see below syscheck see if i have missed anything, i've double checked against my own and all seems in place??

I would guess he didn't install the drive right or it's damaged. Open up the Wii and take a look. I'm pretty sure the drives aren't region dependant (could be wrong). You could always buy a PAL drive and install that if necessary.

Sorry, I meant a PAL drive. Again, the drives might be region locked. I'm not 100% certain on that.

I don't know if drives are region locked. But I do no that they are not married to the console like ps3's. Most likely the drive is broke or not compatible because it's out of region. No usb loading without a working drive. syscheck looks good.

Edit - If it is because of region, would changing the region of the wii work?

    hmmm,
ok so its worse then i thought.... the wii does NOT have a dvd drive, he ripped it out .. i didnt even think to check, but the front fell off in my hands lol

so its just the unit, and its a pal so region should be fine, unless when he had the jap drive in he changed region then?? woulf it still affect wii after the drive has been removed, does it copy that to the nand?
hmmm anybody know if the wii does a diagnostic check on boot up,
it seems to work fine, everything else works except loading the games on hdd, seems like its an 002 error, so could it be because it doesnt have a dvd drive installed its not pasing some sort of check, looking at the hdd, its defo accessing it, because the light keeps flashing, but cant load the games, werid one this, did think the wii was as secuirty latched as the 360's, i know you cant boot a 360 without drive or it flags on system....

The disc drive physically has to be present to play games, even from a usb hd!, it is part of the process the drive intializes so it has to be present either way even if it is broke it still has to be hooked up
