dead wii powers on but no video. Found modchip on drive! What next?

I bought this wii off ebay a few years ago and the guy said it had a dead drive and that was it.
When I got it, it was in HORRIBLE condition as the previous owner had tried to RIP the case open despite screw, plastic is broken everywhere. (paypal found in his favor for as-is)
It power on to a green light and the drive whirs but there is no video out on composite or component.

Today I dusted it off and pulled the drive to power it up without. Still no video output! But I did notice a modchip of some sorts.

Also the solder on the bluetooth antenna is broken so I resoldered that.

What else can I check that's preventing this wii from displaying video?

Does the drive LED flash once or twice? Wondering if it's boot2-capable... check the seating on the Wi-Fi card as well.

Once, forgot to mention I checked that as well. I have no experience with modchips so I don't know what it's capable of. Is boot2 the same with a chip?

Also as a side note would the modchip offer any benefit in my other wii over it's up-to-date softmod?

Looks like a DriveKey Wiikey but I can't say for certain. If you still have the banged up/broken plastic case, look at the serial # on the back and then compare it to the compiled list Krafter and company put together awhile back...

Modchip is good for Korean Wiis that get updated to 4.2U/4.3U --- other than that, not really any benefit over softmod.

I find it interesting that you had to do a solder job on the bluetooth module. A bad BT just might be your problem. Try savemiifrii and see if you can get a recovery menu. If you can then that increases the chances. Did it come with remotes? If so, will they turn the system on? If not that too points to a bad bt.

Scratch my previous attempt at modchip ID, looks like a Wiikey. Davepm's got a Modchip ID guide here.

didn't come with remotes at all. I just soldered the shield back onto the module. On 360's this doesn't matter but it looks like it's grounded on the wii

One would have to ask how the shield got separated from the board to begin with. If you have a gc I still suggest you test savemiifrii. It might be as simple as replacing the bt.

I'm sure the shield came off from the hackjob he did trying to open it. The real question is why did he feel the need to open it? I've got the feeling the mod was done by someone else and the previous owner bricked it somehow with an update. Someone with decent soldering skills wouldn't have destroyed the casing. At least, Unlikely.

    Some quick questions:
Will it boot without the either bluetooth / wifi / or both removed so I can eliminate those? Or do I need to swap from my wii?
Will it boot without the DVD drive?

So I just need a newish game and the GC remote opened up to hold down the 4 buttons?
Will this apply with me not getting any video signal?

The wii will not boot without a bt or a wifi or if either is bad but it will without a drive. If you can swap from another wii that will be by far the best way to prove or eliminate a bad module. If still nothing then try savemiifrii. Its best to use a oem controller since not all after markets work. Its also best to break the tab under the d pad and put it back together. Its hard to do it with just the rubber pad.
