Semi Bricked Wii - Black Screen For Some Games

I live in China and buy pressed Wii backups at a shop. My Wii was a gift and I'm unsure which region it is but most likely EUR/PAL.

These backups seem to install software to make the games load since I don't have a modchip.

Everything worked fine for a while until I played a japanese version of Mario Kart which installed a japanese weather channel and semi bricked my Wii.

My current issue is that a large amount of my games give me a black screen on loading.

I can see the game start menu in the channel but when I press A the screen turns black.

What would be the best way to resolve this issue since I have no idea what software even caused the brick.

What caused it was you putting in a disc that probably had a different regions update on it. You can tell what region it is in the system setting menu. it will say 4.1u or 4.1e or something like that. You dont need a modchip to play back ups if its soft modded.. did your wii have the homebrew channel?

When I try to access the System Settings menu, I get an Opera error page with the following error:

You tried to access the address marc:EU/EU/ENG/index01.html, which is currently unavailable.

The Wii was not soft modded, the soft mods seem to be on the Wii game discs and automatically install which also seemed to have caused the problem.

There is no home brew channel.

Find a original game that has a higher firmware version then yours and update it. it will install a new system menu and update your IOS. make sure it is the correct region for your wii.

you can also soft mod it to fix.. take a look here:

After a couple tries I found out that Endless Ocean - Blue World could do an update.

Unfortunately all my backups now come up as unable to read

The system settings menu is working again and the current version is 4.2E
