Partialy recovered from brick. Some things work, most forms of homebrew don't.

Alright, so here's the backstory. I spent all of last night trying to figure out how to change my region to download the Kirby TV channel from the EU Wii Shop and succeeded too! But when I tried to reinstall it with Wad Manager, it give me the error ret = -1022. I read up on it and somebody said I needed to downgrade my IOS.

Now I'm no newb when it comes to this stuff, and not to sound like I'm making excuses, but I was tired, and even being on 4.2, I did it anyway. This resulted in a full brick during which nothing would load past the BlSoD.

So after remembering I had Preloader installed, I managed to get to the HBC and from there Dop Mii to redownload the 4.2 firmware. To my relief, this had the much anticipated effect of repairing the system, or so I thought. However I quickly found out all was not fixed. I'll no further bother you with a long story, so here's a quick checklist of things that no longer function as they should.

Most Homebrew, (HBC loads, Preloader and BootMii work, but the only application I can launch without getting a BlSoD is Dop Mii).
Super Smash Bros. Brawl, (BlSoD upon launch).
Super Mario Galaxy, ("An error has occurred" pops up on screen before the disk image even loads).
Dop Mii SysCheck, (Freezes solid after scanning IOS35).
Dop Mii Installation of IOS36 with FakeSign.
Bannerbomb, (freezes solid upon loading the banner in the SD card menu).

Any other details can be provided upon request. I just decided to post here before I went ahead and upgraded to 4.3 since that is a last resort for me, (that and I apparently hacked it so well that I'm unable to do so at this time. :P).

Well I did know that actually, that's why I even had it under consideration, (Letterbomb I assume?). However, what I am still unclear on is how much easier/more difficult will it be to reinstall my cIOS once updated to 4.3. I have a Wode for disk backups which isn't a problem, however since I had to disable my Wii Shop account to get this region change thing working, (yes, I wanted it THAT bad) I'll need to resort to Wads for my downloads.

Off topic, my apologies for my... "way with words" in my original post. Bad habit I guess. =P

Ok, so in one last attempt to get it working as is, I downloaded 4.2 from Dop Mii again. This time almost everything seems functional, the Homebrew all works, MOST games work. However signs are beginning to point to a corruption of IOS35. I can't load Super Mario Galaxy, and Dop Mii's SysCheck still freezes after scanning IOS35. Attempting to update it from NUS does nothing.

That aside, as far as I'm aware everything else seems fully functional.

Your post means you've disregarded the advice given to you, or you seemingly are confused. You said you updated to 4.3; the Mod told you to follow a specific guide --- and based on your statements, you still have not done this. Do I detect a pattern of fail here?

As I said before, 4.3 was a last resort. Should this not work at all, I would have gone ahead with it.

And FYI I'm alot further ahead than I was before I reinstalled 4.2 again since there's only one thing that's obviously broken at this time.

While indeed I did misread into it (that you followed through with updating to 4.3), I do not recall mauifrog's guide mentioning the use of DOP-Mii. The advice originally tendered stands. Help is offered, but predicated on the user following sound advice. Seems awfully short sighted to shrug it off so cavalierly --- wouldn't you agree?

Perhaps, however I would not be lying to say that I know my way around a Wii to an extent. Now whether I updated to 4.3 or 4.2 makes little difference since the guide covers both.

Also as I stated before, the update blockades in place by some of the hacks installed currently prevent me to update the system. People SAY not to update from Nintendo but it makes little difference since I'd be starting from scratch anyway. When I first got it I actually UPDATED to 4.2 cause it seemed easier to hack than 4.0 using Bannerbomb. Since DopMii didn't have 4.3 I decided I had nothing to lose by making one last attempt at a self repair.

Now, that aside let me just say that I'm not here to have my integrity as a hacker questioned, I'm here to get advice, and surely what I have done has set up less work than a virgin 4.3 re-hack. Don't get me wrong, I'm glad I got the advice I did, it's just that my last ditch effort may have been better.

Maui's guide is excellent and first rate. Read and follow it. If you get stuck at some point or have questions, STOP then and post them (within his guide). Generally, that thread is tended to everyday by someone with more than adequate skillset to get you through to the other side.
