    Unhappy Soft-modded console suddenly bricked

A few weeks ago, I installed HBC on my friend's Wii -- it originally had firmware 3.4U and I updated to 4.3 and used the Lego Batman hack, then downgraded the firmware to 4.1. The console worked just fine for a few days until he tried to play Wii Sports Resort when I wasn't around. Apparently there was a Wii symbol in the corner and he clicked "agree" on something that popped up and it just shut off a few minutes later (sounds to me like he updated the firmware). Now when it turns on, the disc drive blinks once and the screen flickers but nothing comes up. Just a black screen. OF DEATH.

I understand there is a device called SaveMii for unbricking Wii consoles. Before I jump and buy this, I'd like to know if it's possible to unbrick without it, and if not how certain can I be that it will work?

You could try to use SaveMiiFrii it involves using a gamecube controller in the 4th gamecube slot and pressing up,down, right, and left at the same time, this requires take the controller apart. Look for a guide around here. Try this after you have made sure that you do not have boot2 in which you can unbrick even without a nand backup which you should have made. good luck!

wait for other responses just in case I have no idea what I am talking about.

When I ran the Bathaxx program it asked me to install something other than HBC, but I can't remember if it was BootMii or boot2...do you know if SaveMiiFrii works with third party GC controllers? I have a pair from (Removed external link) -- the directional pad is different from the official controller and it feels like I can press them all down but I still just get a blank screen and nothing comes up. I tried to take it apart anyway, but the screws are stripping because I don't have the best tools for the job.

Well the other option was to install Bootmii after the HBC, which upon install if you had an older Wii you could have installed it as boot2 or as an IOS for newer ones (if boot2 is available do that for sure) , I am now assuming that you have not installed either, Bootmii is a pretty useful way to save a Wii from a brick as after Bootmii is installed you can get Priiloader, Priiloader allows you to block updates from online and from disks (Bootmii also allows the ability to make a backup of your wii and restore to it safely if boot2 was installed , which you should have done, but now in hindsight that doesn't really matter now. All that you should focus on now is unbricking, I hear that the timing is very difficult to get, but with some practice you should be able to get it to work, think of SaveMii as an last option, but that might not even work. If you can unbrick, use this guide and fully soft mod your wii and have you and your friend read this to avoid bricks in the future.
Again good luck and I hope you will be able to unbrick!
