Wii freezes at setup up menu

I purchased a used wii on ebay. It worked fine for a while, then it began began freezing on a regular basis. I thought formatting might fix it, and since I had nothing of real importance on wii, this seemed like a good option. I formatted system and now it freezes on setup menu, before, or once I click to enter the days date. Is there anyway to fix this? Or do I need to replace motherboard (if so which one the main or one located on DVD). I have looked all over for info on this issue and have been unable to find any that fixes problem, any help would be appreciated.

I purchased a brand new wii in leiu of broken one. Could it possibly be used to fix problem

If it were me, I would try softmodding it using the any wii guide in my signature. This replaces most everything in the system, including reinstalling system menu 4.1. Some weird things can happen if the system menu gets corrupt.

    Good luck-

Ah I get it. I forgot that when you reformat it it forces you to re-enter that info. Have you checked to see if bootmii or priiloader are installed perchance? If not, hang around, someone might have a trick I dont know about.

When you first turn on the wii does the drive light flash twice?

Turn off the wii (red light).
Hold reset button and dont let go!
    Press the power button.
If priiloader is installed the priiloader menu will load. (now let go of the reset button )

Drive light flashes only once. I tried holding reset button. Nothing happened. Same setup menu that freezes poped up.

What system menu is on the wii? Try to update it from disc to 4.2 or 4.3 via savemiifrii, you need a retail disc with an update.

If that is not an option you could install a modchip if the wii has a compatible dvd drive or a wode and run smash stack via savemiifrii, then you could try the softmod guide.

You probably have a hardware issue, not sure what it could be.
