Semi-bricked Wii, unbricking guides have only had temporary succss

Hello, this is my first post here so I apologize if I'm doing something wrong, but I read the posting rules.

I began setting up my Wii homebrew Friday. Well, actually I began setting up my Wii homebrew many months ago, but I never finished, so I tried for the second time last Friday. My initial plan was to "wipe clean" my Wii and start one of the guides fresh, but I soon learned that was a terrible idea, and ended up just installing over it. After I set it up, I couldn't access my Wii settings (semi-bricked) so I tried two or three different fixes, and they all worked immediately afterward, but my Wii ended up becoming semi-bricked again.

Even worse, I was playing my backed up copy of Twilight Princess and the game crashed, and when I rebooted my Wii my system was fully bricked, but I reinstalled IOSes and the system menu and fixed that. Still, my Wii was semi-bricked.

I'm not sure what other relevant information to provide, but here are my Syscheck results. Perhaps something is set up incorrectly that keeps messing up my Wii?

Do you have bootmii as boot2?
Do you have priiloader/preloader?

And did you follow a guide from wiihacks?

I'm not sure if I have bootmii installed as boot2. I think that when I opened the installer, it wouldn't install. It might have been that I already had a more up-to-date version. Is there some way I can check?

I definitely have Priiloader installed because I've enabled the update blocker hacks.

You do not have a region mismatch semi brick. What is your semi brick doing? Describe the issue if detail from when you turn the wii on. Also, what usbloader are you using?

If I put the Wii to sleep and turn it back on, my TV doesn't seem to get any output from it. I have to shut it down and turn it back on.

When I turn it on (and it actually outputs), the safety screen opens and I can then access my home screen. Everything here works, and I even have some channel forwarders set up for my Wii backups. I use configurable USB loader. If I go to Wii settings, the screen turns black and the background noises cease. I have to hard shut down to try again. This also happens in maintenance mode.

...Except that's only what usually happens. I left my Wii asleep last night and didn't check it until just now, and it was very hot. It wouldn't output anything, although it would check to load a disc. I lifted it up and let it sit under a fan and tried again, but still nothing. This is when I got the compressed air and cooled off the insides by blowing into the disc drive. I then got as far as the home screen, but when I clicked on the button in the lower left of the home screen, the screen turned black and ceased to change.

That being said, two nights ago I had Twilight Princess randomly crash on me, and I have had people on campus (when other people regularly used my Wii) tell me that it crashed occasionally. Perhaps this is a hardware issue and not a softmod issue? Is there anything I can check?

Your wii should not be hot, ensure the wiis fan is working. You should disable standby and WC24.

The Wii's fan is definitely working. Not sure if what just happened was an anomaly, because everything seems to be back to normal--including the fact that I can't get to the settings.

When I open Hackmii Installer 0.8 through the HBC, the scam warning comes up for a second, but then a few white pixels appear in the upper white corner of the screen and it crashes (Wii remote won't connect, the screen doesn't proceed). Should I re-download it, or what?

OK, I don't think you need to reinstall hackmii. You should have the latest version already installed. I don't know why the hackmii installer would crash, did it make a new log in sd:\installer.log. Perhaps post the log, but I am thinking that you have more of a hardware issue, possibly overheating.

Do chapter 2 of my softmod guide again, install everything, the cios, system menu, ios update, and have a look at "Any Region Changer" ensure all the region settings are USA. I am sure your region settings are fine, but just take a look. After you do chapter 2 see if you can get into your system settings and disable standby and Wii Connect 24. Then unplug the wii when you go to bed and have a look at it in the morning, hopefully that will help. While your at it, take that compressed air and blow it in through the fan intake and the exhaust ports on the wii, get the dust out best you can. Try to keep the wii in an upright position in an area with good air flow. Let me know how that pans out for you.

You have a nand backup somewhere? You should have one, so if not you should make a nand backup just in case things go south.

I redownloaded and checked the MD5s on my SD card. But now bootmii is giving me grief. (Bootmii is definitely installed though) After running Bootmii from HBC, my Wii tries to load my SD card but ends up repeatedly printing this to the screen:

Do chapter 2, except load MMM from the HBC install the cboot2 bootmii. Just copy sd:\boot.dol -> sd:\apps\multi-mod manager\boot.dol, then load it from HBC. That error suggests that cboot2 does not like your sd card. MMM should load on 236 for you, if not reload ios to ios250 then install the wads.

If you don't have sd:\boot.dol you don't have all the files, you need modpack, ciospack and ios update pack.
